Men’s Water Polo Closes The MPSF Invite With A Loss Against No.7 Princeton

Long Beach State returns to the Ken Lindgren Aquatics Center on Friday to host Air Force.
BERKELEY, Calif. – No. 10 Long Beach State dropped a close contest against No.7 Princeton to conclude the MPSF Invite.
The Beach (7-4) started the game trailing 2-0 as the Tigers (9-4) took an early lead.
Senior Bruno Chiappini picked up things as he left yesterday scoring the first goal of the day for the Beach. Princeton scored another goal to keep the lead by two heading into the second quarter.
Freshman Gabi Acosta started the second quarter with a quick goal on the first play of the period. Senior Liam Ward made a crucial penalty shot save to stop the Tigers from extending their lead. Long Beach State and Princeton traded goals as Acosta and Riley Catino would help the Beach cut the Tigers lead by one, heading into halftime down 5-4.
At the second half, Princeton was able to extend their lead. Chiappini would score two more times to conclude his hat-trick but the Beach kept trailing 11-8. On the last quarter the Beach had a late reaction with back-to-back goals by Senior Evan Cain but the Tigers maintained the lead winning the game 14-12.
Gabi Acosta and Bruno Chiappini both recorded hat-tricks, while Evan Cain scored two and Riley Catino and Marc Frigola added one goal.
