Powell & Shiff Advance To Quarterfinals Of West Regional

All of the LBSU entries improved upon their seed time on Wednesday

Day 1 Results
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark.—Long Beach State saw two entries reach the quarterfinals as The Beach men's track and field team opened competition at the NCAA West Region First Round Wednesday at John McDonnell Field on the campus of the University of Arkansas.
 
Kash Powell advanced to the quarterfinals of the 800m. He just missed automatically advancing to the quarterfinals of the 800m as he finished fourth in heat two with a time of 1:48.64. He finished 19th as he kept his hopes of repeating as an All-American in the event alive. The quarters will be run on Friday at 7:05 p.m. CDT/5:05 p.m. PDT.
 
Omri Shiff advanced to the quarterfinals of the 400m hurdles by running 51.16. He finished 18th as the top 24 advanced. The quarters are set for Friday at 7:25 p.m. CDT/5:25 p.m. PDT. 
Both Powell (24th) and Shiff (25th) improved upon their seed times that resulted in a spot in the West Regional.
 
Nikolaj Freschlin broke 220 feet in the javelin, posting a toss of 220-11. His performance found Freschlin in the top 12 for the first two rounds of the third final flight. However, he would end up being edged out of the final qualifying position and ended his season with a 17th-place showing. 
 
Conrad Bernstein finished third in his flight with a toss of 206-11 on his third and final attempt. Breaking the 200-foot mark for the fourth time this season resulted in Bernstein finishing 30th overall. 
 
Freschlin (21st) and Bernstein (37th) improved upon their West Regional seed with their Thursday performance.
 
Justin Watterson ran his second fastest 110m hurdles time of the season, 13.78. Watterson's effort resulted in 26th in the field of 48. His finish was better than his seed (27th) coming into the West Regional. 
 
Aiden Pastorian threw the shot put 57-7 3/4, marking his second-best performance of 2024. He finished 29th among the 48 throwers. Pastorian improved upon his seed by 13 positions with his Thursday placing.
 
UP NEXT
The Long Beach State women's track and field team begins action on Thursday. The following Beach entries are scheduled to compete with a revised schedule as the events were moved up by as much as three hours due to weather.
