SCOUTING THE LANCERS
The Lancers are 26-14 after winning 2-of-3 Western Athletic Conference games last weekend at Abilene Christian. CBU is tied for first in the WAC (13-5) with Grand Canyon.
Nicholas Dumesnil is the team leader in batting average (.350), home runs (13), RBI (30), slugging (.707), and on-base percentage (.445).
Michael Carpenter is second in Division I with 20 doubles, while Michael Simon has also hit 13 home runs this season for the Lancers.
CBU has not named a probable starter to face LBSU's Van Larson.
AGAINST THE OPPONENT
Long Beach State and California Baptist are playing for the fifth time, with the Dirtbags leading the all-time series 3-1. The teams will play again on May 13 in Long Beach.
THE OFFENSE BEING OFFENSIVE
The Dirtbags offense was on display during the week of Apr. 15. Long Beach State posted a season-high 14 hits in the 10-7 victory over CSUN on the 15th.
The Dirtbags defeated San Diego State 12-5 on Apr. 16 and handled UC Riverside 13-1 on Apr. 19. The 10 runs in each of the three games marked the first time since Mar. 29-Apr. 1, 2009 (13 vs. UNLV, 14 at Santa Clara, and 14 at Cal) that LBSU has scored at least 10 runs in three consecutive games.
CHAMPAGNE STEALS
Alex Champagne stole three bases against CSUN on Apr. 15 to become the first Dirtbags' player to record three swipes in a game since Connor Kokx stole three at Hawai'i on Mar. 21, 2021.
He has stolen seven bases in the last five games (in seven attempts) and now leads the team and the Big West in the category with 16 (16-19). He is 82nd in Division I in stolen bases (131 ranked) and 91st in stolen bases per game (0.43).
CHARPIOT ON TOP
Connor Charpiot leads the Dirtbags on offense. He has reached base in every game for Long Beach State this season (29) in which he has played. Entering this weekend, Charpiot is on a 15-game hitting streak.
Charpiot leads the Dirtbags in hitting at a .349 clip and in multiple-hit games with 12.
He was forced to sit out eight games due to an injury he suffered during the Pepperdine game on Apr. 2.
