Long Beach State Falls To UC Davis In The Final Game Of The Regular Season

Despite the loss, the Beach have clinched the No. 7 seed in The Big West Championships next week in Henderson, Nev.
DAVIS, Calif. – Long Beach State got off to a slow start and was never able to recover as the Beach dropped a 70-58 decision to UC Davis on the road on Saturday afternoon.
The Beach close the regular season with a 13-17 overall record and an 8-12 conference mark as LBSU will head into The Big West Championships as the No. 7 seed. As such, Long Beach State will face No. 6 seed UC Santa Barbara in the first round on Wednesday, March 13. Tip-off is set for 2:30 p.m. at the Dollar Loan Center in Henderson, Nev.
UC Davis (17-13, 13-7 Big West), meanwhile, is still waiting on its seeding to be determined as the Aggies could end up anywhere between a No. 3, 4, or 5 seed as they are in the mix with Cal Poly and UC Riverside.
Savannah Tucker (11 points), Cheyenne Givens (10 points), and Jada Crawshaw (10 points) all led the Long Beach State offense. Crawshaw also led the team with six rebounds, while adding two steals.
Patricia Chung added nine points, four boards, four steals, and one assist, while Casey Valenti-Paea chipped in four points, four rebounds, four steals, and one assist on the day.
UC Davis started the game off scoring six-straight points and never looked back. The Aggies led the entire game. With the hosts leading 17-9, Long Beach State went on a 7-0 run capped by a three from Givens at 1:05 to pull within one (17-16), but that was as close as the Beach would get. Davis closed the first quarter sinking back-to-back threes to take a 23-16 lead into the second quarter.
The Aggies opened the second quarter with a triple to open up a double-digit lead (26-16) on the Beach. UC Davis got a strong performance from Mazatlan Harris who scored nine points in the frame helping the Aggies take a 45-31 lead over Long Beach State into the locker room at halftime.
The halftime break did little to stop the Aggies hot shooting. They came out of the break and opened the second half on a 9-0 run as UC Davis took its largest margin of the game (54-31) at 7:24. The Beach scored 13 in the frame, and trailed, 61-44, going into the fourth quarter.
Long Beach State outscored UC Davis, 14-9, in the fourth quarter. But the damage had already been done. The Aggies went on to claim a 70-58 win over the Beach.
Evanne Turner led all scorers with 24, while Tova Sabel added 17. Harris finished with 14 points and 11 rebounds for a double-double. Campbell Gray dished out six assists and four steals, while also recording five boards, and three points. Bria Shine led the Aggies in blocks (2) and assists (6), while grabbing three boards.
