
Six Beach Players Score In Double-Figures As Long Beach State Takes Down UC Santa Barbara, 90-75, To Advance To The Big West Championship Quarterfinals

Patricia Chung registered a double-double, while Savannah Tucker led the Beach with 17 points in the Long Beach State’s victory
With the victory, Long Beach State (14-17) advances to the Quarterfinals of the tournament and will face No. 3 seed UC Riverside on Thursday, March 14 at 12 p.m.
The Beach were led by half a dozen double-figure scorers as they shot 46.3 percent from the field and connected on 12-of-27 threes to shoot 44.4 percent from long distance. The 12 triples were a new season-high for LBSU and also marked the most Long Beach State Women's Basketball has ever scored in The Big West Tournament in program history.

UC Santa Barbara (16-15) got a huge performance from Alexis Whitfield as she posted 30 points and 17 rebounds, while just missing a triple-double with eight assists. Alyssa Marin added 21 points of her own, while adding eight boards.
Despite, two solid showings from the two Gauchos, Long Beach State never trailed throughout the game. The Beach spread the ball around as Savannah Tucker led the way with 17 points, while adding six rebounds. Meanwhile, Sydney Woodley and Cheyenne Givens each contributed 16 points, while Jada Crawshaw chipped in 14. Rounding out the barrage of double-figure scorers for LBSU were Casey Valenti-Paea and Patricia Chung who each recorded 10 points.
Chung was solid on all sides of the ball as she finished the game with a double-double (10 points, 10 rebounds), while also dishing out four assists.
Woodley, The Big West leader in steals, passed out six assists in the game to go along with five steals, while adding eight boards in another all-around effort by the junior guard.
The Beach got off to a hot start taking a quick 8-2 lead over the Gauchos by 8:22. UC Santa Barbara pilled within three (12-9) at 4:21, but that was as close as they'd get in the frame. Long Beach State went on a 14-2 run highlight by four threes to opened up a 25-11 lead by 2:15. The Beach would go on to take a 27-18 lead to the second quarter.
LBSU dropped another 27 points in the second quarter as the Beach shot 57.1 (8-14) percent from the field in the frame. Long Beach used a 7-0 run to extend its lead to 14 (34-10) at 7:25, before stringing together 11-consecutive points to go up 45-26 with 2:56 on the clock. The Beach drained eight triples in the first half and led 54-34 at halftime. LBSU's 54 points was the most the Beach have scored in the first half this season.

The tables turned in the third quarter as UCSB out-shot Long Beach State 57.9 (11-19) percent to 29.4 (5-17) percent from the field. The Gauchos took advantage of the Beach's cold shooting and whittled their once 21-point lead (59-38) down to 16 (65-49) by the media timeout at 3:30. The Gauchos went on a 13-0 run to close the frame as Long Beach State held a 65-62 advantage heading into the final quarter.
Despite seeing their lead cut all the way down to one (65-64) at 9:42 in the fourth quarter, the Beach showed their resilience and turned in a gritty effort to regain their once dominant lead. Crawshaw's jumper at 9:28 kicked off a 7-0 run for the Beach as they went back up by double-digits (77-66) with 5:38 on the clock. The Gauchos closed the gap once again, making it a five-point game (80-75) with 2:04 remaining. That was as close as they'd get as Long Beach State closed the game on a 10-0 run to win, 90-75. The 90 points scored by the Beach marked their highest scoring output of the season.
