Long Beach State Unbeaten In Doubles To Begin UNLV Fall Tournament

The Beach was 3-0 in doubles and won four singles matches.
LAS VEGAS, Nev. – Long Beach State women's tennis was a perfect 3-0 in doubles competition, sending all six Beach competitors to the semifinals in the first of three days of fall competition from UNLV.
Switching up the teams in an effort to find the best fit, Long Beach State had a very strong day in doubles to open up their time in Vegas. Paulina Franco Martinessi joined Pamela Badillo in a tight match against Ana Sampere and Olivia Bustos of Utah Tech, winning in a 7-3 tiebreakwhile Cecilia Costa and Thea Jagare were 7-5 winners against a combined team of Sofiia Sokolvak and Utah's Emma Valetta, 7-5 as both pairs moved on to the Flight 1 doubles semifinals. In Flight 2, Diana De Simone was joined by Daria Malaescu making her collegiate debut in doubles, and the pair won 6-2 over Raquel Roshak and Laura Coulome of Utah Tech.
In singles, the Beach had four wins. Freshman Diana De Simone was a three-set winner against Utah's Valletta, bouncing back for a 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 win in Flight 1. Cindy Hu of the host Rebels turned the opposite against Cecilia Costa, as Costa won the first set 6-2 but the freshman was ultimately defeated by the UNLV veteran in three sets.
The Beach dropped their two flight two matches, as Rose Hayes defeated Badillo and Nikol Mircheva of UNLV won in three sets against Jagare, but the Beach won their other three matches.
Malescu, making her return to action after missing the ITA Southwest Regionals impressed with a 6-3, 6-0 win over Olivia Bustos of Utah Tech, while Paulina Franco Martinessi won one of the closest matches of the day, besting Maya Inouye of Utah Tech 7-5, 5-7, 7-5. Only playing singles, Daisy Carpenter was a straight sets winner against Couome of Utah Tech, as the Flight 4 round robin got off to a good start for the freshman in the only flight being contested in a different format.
Competition from UNLV continues on Saturday, with another round of singles and doubles scheduled for all competitors, including consolation matches for those defeated today.
