
Beach Women’s Basketball Falls At Michigan

Lovely Sonnier led Long Beach State with 12 points, while Patricia Chung added 11
ANN ARBOR, Mich. – The Long Beach State Women's Basketball team faced Michigan for the first time in program history on Sunday afternoon at the Crisler Center. The Beach suffered a 111-56 loss to the Wolverines to conclude LBSU's four-game road trip.
The Wolverines (5-1) opened the game on a 10-2 run and never looked back as the hosts led the visiting Beach (2-3) for the entirety of the contest. Michigan led by as many as 15 in the first quarter, before Mykelle Richards sunk the and-1 to bring the score to 23-12 at the end of the frame.
Michigan took an 18-point (32-14) advantage over Long Beach State with 7:35 on the clock in the second quarter. The Wolverines went on to close the first half with six-straight points, as the Beach trailed 51-26 at halftime.
The second half saw the Wolverines go on a 10-0 run, followed by an 8-0 run as the hosts opened up a 79-42 lead over Long Beach State. The Beach found themselves down by 37 (84-47) heading int o the final 10 minutes of action.
In the final quarter, Long Beach State was held to just 18.8% shooting from the field and was outscored by Michigan, 27-9. The Wolverines closed the game on an 11-0 run to extend their winning streak to five.
Lovely Sonnier led the Beach with 12 points, while Patricia Chung added 11. Chung led the team with six rebounds and three assists, while collecting one steal. Rachel Loobie finished the game with nine points, while Savannah Tucker led the team with three steals. Richards went on to conclude the contest with seven points as did Haley Wright.
Michigan boasted six double-figure scorers led by Olivia Olson's 23 points. Syla Swords recorded 18 points, while Yulia Grabovskaia posted 13, and Jordan Hobbs chipped in 12. Rounding out the Wolverines double-digit scorers were Brooke Quarles Daniels and Te'Yala Delfosse with 10 points each. Hobbs led the squad with eight boards and five assists, while Swords added eight rebounds of her own to go along with five assists and four steals.
Long Beach State looks to get back on the winning track on Sunday, Dec. 1 when the Beach host Pepperdine in the Walter Pyramid at 2 p.m. The game will be broadcast live on ESPN+.
