The Beach boast three double-figure scorers and double-digit rebounders in the victory

LONG BEACH, Calif. – Long Beach State turned in a strong second half performance as the Beach shot 50.0% from the field in the fourth quarter on their way to a 68-61 victory over Pepperdine on Sunday at the Walter Pyramid.

LBSU (3-3) boasted three double-figure scorers and rebounders in the win over Pepperdine (4-3). On the offensive end, Savannah Tucker and Mykelle Richards paced the Beach with 15 points each to lead the squad. Joining the duo in double-digits was Jada Crawshaw who finished with 12 points.

Rachel Loobie was excellent as she led the Beach with 14 rebounds, just one shy of her career-high. She also contributed seven points, three assists, and four blocks in an all-around effort.

Patricia Chung also notched double-figure rebounds with a career-high tying 10 boards. Chung added four points, three assists, and two steals in the game.

The Beach used a 9-0 run in the first quarter to break the game open and take a 17-11 lead over the Waves with 2:22 remaining. Tucker's driving layup kicked off the run which culminated on a layup from Crawshaw. Pepperdine made two buckets in the final minute of action to cut the Beach's lead down to two (17-15) at the end of the first quarter.

The second quarter was close early on. However, a three from Ella Brubaker jumpstarted a 9-0 run for the Waves in the final 1:43 of the frame. The run put Pepperdine on top of LBSU, 35-32, at halftime.

Long Beach State came out of the locker room strong to start the second half. The Beach went on a 10-2 run in the first 4:30 of the game to take a five-point lead (42-37) over the Waves. In the remaining 5:30, Pepperdine chipped away at the Beach's lead before closing the quarter on a 9-0 run to go back up by one (51-50).

The Beach opened the fourth quarter scoring eight-consecutive points as LBSU extended its lead to six (58-52) which prompted a Pepperdine timeout. The break in action did little to stop the Beach as they continued to pull away from the Waves. Long Beach led by as many as 10 (68-58) after a pullup jumper from Tucker, but a made three from Pepperdine with just 18 seconds remaining made it a seven-point advantage (68-61) when the clock expired.

Pepperdine's Ella Brubaker led all scorers with 20 points, while adding seven rebounds, and three assists. Chloe Sotell tallied 19 points, while Megan Harkey added 10 to round out the Waves' double-figure scorers.

Long Beach State opens Big West action on Thursday, Dec. 5 when the Beach host cross-town rival Cal State Fullerton at the Walter Pyramid. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m. The game will be broadcast live on ESPN+.
