The Beach Boast Four Double-Figure Scorers in 67-56 Win Over Cal State Fullerton In Conference Opener

Lovely Sonnier and Jada Crawshaw led the way with double-doubles, while Savannah Tucker and Rachel Loobie posted 16 and 11 points, respectively.
LONG BEACH, Calif. – Long Beach State opened Big West action on Thursday night and took down conference rival Cal State Fullerton, 67-56, at the Walter Pyramid.
The Beach (4-3, 1-0 Big West) shot 40.3% from the field, while the LBSU defense held the Titans (0-8, 0-1 Big West) to just 27.9% shooting. Long Beach State held the advantage in rebounds (53-38), assists (14-13), steals (9-6) and blocks (9-3). Their nine blocks mark a new season-high for the Beach.
Senior Savannah Tucker led the Beach with 16 points as she shot 46.2% from the field. Joining Tucker in double-figures were Jada Crawshaw (13 points), Lovely Sonnier (12 points), and Rachel Loobie (11 points). Crawshaw and Sonnier also notched double-doubles with 12 and 10 rebounds, respectively.
Loobie led the Long Beach State defense with five blocks, while adding eight rebounds – seven of which were on the defensive end.
Long Beach State outshot Cal State Fullerton in the first quarter 37.5% to 30.8%. However, the Titans used a 7-0 run to take a 7-2 lead over the Beach in the first three minutes of action. From there, Fullerton led the rest of the frame as the quarter came to a close with LBSU down by three (15-12).
The Beach wasted no time in the second quarter as Tucker tied the game (15-15) with a triple at 9:08. Loobie gave Long Beach State a 17-15 lead at 7:49, but the Titans were quick to counter and go back up, 19-17 at 6:41. After falling behind by five (23-18), Long Beach State got three-straight buckets from Crawshaw, Patricia Chung, and Sonnier to take a 24-23 edge with 2:47 remaining, before taking a 26-25 lead into the locker room at halftime.
LBSU opens the second half with nine-straight points to take a 10-point advantage (35-25) at 6:49. The Beach controlled the rest of the game from there. A 7-0 Long Beach State run extended the hosts' lead to 13 (42-29) by the 5-minute mark. Fullerton managed to cut LBSU's lead to nine (46-37) at the end of the third quarter.
The Beach used another scoring run in the fourth quarter to extend their lead to 13 (53-40) after a driving layup from Sonnier at 7:25. In addition to solid offense that led by as many as 17 (64-47) in the frame, Long Beach State's strong defense also kept the Titans at bay. With the game under control, the Beach cruised to a 67-56 victory handing the Titans their eight-straight loss.
Aaliyah Stanton led all scorers with 21 points, while Aixchel Hernandez finished with a double-double (12 points, 10 rebounds) for the Titans. Eva Levingston pulled down 10 boards, while adding six points, three steals, and three assists.
Long Beach State will be back in action on Saturday, Dec. 7 when the Beach take on Hawaii on the islands. Tip-off is set for 9 p.m. (PT). The game will be broadcast live on ESPN+.
