Beach Women’s Volleyball Drops Straight Set Decision At Hawaii

Zayna Meyer finished the match with a double-double in Long Beach State’s loss
HONOLULU – The Long Beach State Women's Volleyball team came up short in a three-set road sweep at Hawaii as LBSU fell by scores of 15-25, 23-25, 21-25] on Friday night at the Stan Sheriff Center.
The loss snaps a four-match winning streak for the Beach and drops LBSU to 16-10 overall and 10-6 in Big West action. Meanwhile, the Bows improve to 17-8 on the year and 11-4 in conference play.
The Beach hit .109 in the match as they struggled to find their groove. Senior outside hitter Abby Karich led the team with eight kills, while senior setter Zayna Meyer recorded a double-double (12 assists, 12 digs). Maura Hayes, who split setter duties with Meyer just missed a double-double of her own as she finished the match with nine assists and as many digs.
Senior middle blocker Kameron Bacon was efficient from the middle as she knocked down six kills on a .333 hitting percentage (6-1-15). Joining Bacon in the middle was sophomore Ella Lomigora who patrolled the net with five blocks, while adding three kills.
Hawaii controlled the opening set as the Bows hit .478 to Long Beach State's .179. UH used a 7-0 scoring run to take a 16-5 lead over the Beach. Hawaii led by as many as 14 (21-7), before Long Beach State started chipping away at the lead. The Beach managed to make it a nine-point game (24-15) after an ace from Livi Narancich, but ultimately fell, 25-15, to Hawaii.
The Beach started the second set off strong as they used a 6-0 run to take an 11-6 advantage over Hawaii. However, The Bows put together several small runs to turn the tables and take a 20-17 lead over the Beach. LBSU countered and tied the game at 23-all, but Hawaii claimed the second set, 25-23.
Trailing 2-0, Long Beach State jumped out in front early to start the third set, 3-0. The Beach led 13-8 after going on a 5-1 run. The Bows would come back and score four-straight points and cut the Beach's lead down to one (13-12) forcing a Long Beach State timeout. Hawaii broke the game open when the hosts went on a 7-0 run to lead 22-16 and never look back. The Beach cut the Bows' lead down to two several times, but could not come any closer as Hawaii completed the sweep with a 25-21 set three win.
Stella Adeyemi led the Bows with 11 kills, while Tali Hakas added 10 kills to go along with 18 digs for a double-double. Also registering a double-double for Hawaii was setter Kate Lang as she finished the match with 34 assists and 10 digs. Libero Talyi Ikenaga anchored the back row with 18 digs, while Hakas and Jacyn Bamis put up four blocks.
Long Beach State looks to get back on the winning track as they close out the regular season against Cal State Bakersfield (Nov. 22) and CSUN (Nov. 23) at the Walter Pyramid. Both matches are set to start at 7 p.m., with the LBSU-CSUB match being broadcast on ESPN+.
