Long Beach State punched their ticket to the Big West Championship with the win.

LONG BEACH, Calif. – Senior setter Zayna Meyer set a major career milestone in a fun night inside of the Walter Pyramid, as the Beach cruised to a 25-18, 25-21, 25-16 sweep of Cal State Bakersfield.

After easing to a set one win, Meyer reached the historic milestone of 3,000 assists, joining a group of now six elite setters at Long Beach State that includes Sheri Sanders, Misty May, Sabrina Hernandez, Nicole Vargas and Keri Nishimoto.

Overall, Long Beach State (17-10, 11-6 Big West) hit .375 on the evening with two sets over .400, the first and third. The Beach had nine blocks to four from Cal State Bakersfield (12-17, 6-11 Big West), and were led by freshman Madi Maxwell, who had 16 kills, while the rest of the offense was spread around four other hitters who had five or more kills in the three-setter.

Long Beach State set the tone in the first set, hitting .417 while holding Cal State Bakersfield to .062 hitting on the way to a 25-18 win. Leading 7-5, the Beach got- the first of two aces from Maura Hayes to spark a quick run to 10-5. Scoring on an Ella Lomigora kill following a CSUB timeout to go up 18-11, the Beach cruised the rest of the way to the set one win.

In the second set, Long Beach State pushed out to a 13-10 ten behind a service run from Meyer, and in the point after the media timeout, Madi Maxwell closed out a long rally with a kill as Meyer reached the setters milestone. Leading 21-19, a service ace from Meyer extended the lead to three. Another late ace from Abby Karich gave the Beach more cushion and Maxwell closed out the set with her 11th kill of the first two sets to take a 25-21 win.

Two early blocks from the Beach helped LBSU take an early lead in set three, 5-2. A service run from Jenna Giambi helped grow the lead to 12-7. Cal State Bakersfield made a short run to one, but the Beach bounced back to pull away for a 25-16 victory.

With the win, Long Beach State secured their spot in the upcoming Big West Championship, held next week at the Bren Events Center in Irvine which will see the league's Top 6 teams face off for the automatic berth into the NCAA Tournament.

The Beach will honor their seniors tomorrow evening in the final home match and final match of the regular season when Long Beach State hosts CSUN inside the Walter Pyramid at 7 p.m.
