Long Beach State Picks Up Five More Wins Saturday At Beach Tennis Fall Invitational

Long Beach State went 2-1 in doubles and had a trio of straight set wins in singles.
LONG BEACH, Calif. – While play continued Saturday towards the end of the main draw, action continued for all nine Big West teams at the Beach Tennis Fall Tournament with a ton of singles and doubles action heavily featuring Long Beach State.

With Long Beach State's quarterfinal duo of Pamela Badillo and Cecelia Costa getting the day off in singles, it was the rest of the team's time to shine Saturday. Thea Jagare had a convincing win against Romane Mosse of Cal Poly, 6-3, 6-0 as did Paulina Franco Martinessi, defeating Sophia Sappa of UC Davis 6-0, 6-1.
Also winning in straight sets was freshman Diana De Simone, who defeated Isabella Bringas of UC Davis 6-3, 6-3. Daria Malaescu faced off in a tight match with Katelyn Vu of UC San Diego, as the freshman dropped the first set 6-3 but rallied for her own 6-3 win in set two before falling 11-9 in a ten-point tiebreaker. Freshman Daisy Carpenter fell 6-1, 6-4 to Tallia Harper of CSUN in the day's other singles match.
Long Beach State picked up a pair of wins in doubles as well. Jagare and Badillo finished off an unbeaten day with a 6-3 win over Kunza/Hayes of Cal State Fullerton, as did Paulina Franco Martinessi and Cecilia Costa with a 6-3 win over Sarah MacCallum and Natalie Lynch of Cal Poly. De Simone and Carpenter fell in a tight 6-4 decision in LBSU's other doubles match Saturday against Wardy/Jawadi of UC San Diego.
The main draw championship match of the Beach Tennis Fall Invitational in both singles and doubles was set up on Saturday as well. Top seed Julia Haynes of UCSD will face third seed Raphaelle Leroux of UC Santa Barbara at 10:30 a.m. in singles, while the doubles championship will kick off Sunday's action at 9.a.m as Myoung/Nikitash of Cal State Fullerton will face Nepomuceno/Galindo of Hawai'i.
Long Beach State will also compete in more extra singles and doubles matches Sunday starting in the morning at the Rhodes Tennis Center.
