THE KICKOFF
Long Beach State concludes a three-game road trip this week.

Thursday night sees the Beach travel to UC Santa Barbara for a 6 p.m. matchup on ESPN+

On Sunday, LBSU travels to Cal Poly. Due to forecasted extreme heat and for the safety of everyone involved, the match's start time was moved from noon to 9 a.m. ESPN+ will cover the match.

SCOUTING THE GAUCHOS
UC Santa Barbara sits in the Big West lead after three matches as the Gauchos have recorded seven points in a 2-0-1 start. UCSB is 4-3-5 overall.

Maddie Buckley leads the conference in goals against average at 0.84. She has made 30 saves in 10 starts. Buckley is 3-2-4. Her five shutouts pace the Big West and rank her 21st in Division I to begin this week.

Jessica Carlton and Devin Greer are tied for the team lead in points with six. Greer has scored a club-high three goals. Carlton, Isabella Ong, and Haley Phillips have posted a team-best two assists.

AGAINST THE OPPONENT
Long Beach State leads the all-time series against UC Santa Barbara 19-14-1.

SCOUTING THE MUSTANGS
Cal Poly begins the week with a 3-7-2 overall record and a 1-2 mark in Big West play. The Mustangs host UC Irvine Thursday night before welcoming LBSU to San Luis Obispo.

Goalie Mackenzie Samuel was named the Big West Defensive Player of the Week on Sept. 30. She made one save on her way to her 18th career shutout against UC Riverside last Thursday. In the 1-0 loss to Cal State Fullerton, she made 10 saves to raise her career total to 182, the eighth most in school history. She is second in the Big West in goals against at 1.12. She is 3-4-1 with 32 saves and two shutouts in eight starts this season.

Annika Smith is third in the Big West in goals with five. She leads the team with 10 points.

AGAINST THE OPPONENT
Cal Poly leads the all-time series against Long Beach State 13-10-2.

WORDEN NAMED BIG WEST OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Liz Worden was named Big West Offensive Player of the Week on Sept. 30.

Worden scored a goal and posted two assists in LBSU's 4-3 victory over UC San Diego on Sept. 29. Worden's first assist came in the 33rd minute. Her left-footed cross found Julia Moore in the six-yard box, where she headed in her second goal.

Worden put the Beach back in front 3-2 in the 61st minute when she headed in Kylie Perez's throw-in. Worden's second assist came on Makayla Demelo's game-winning goal in the 83rd minute. A quick Kassandra Ceja throw-in went to Worden. Worden dribbled once, passing to a rushing Demelo, who scored from 20 yards out.

Counting the Sept. 26 game against CSUN, Worden took four shots on the week.

She leads the team and is fourth in the Big West in shots with 30. The junior forward is third in the Big West and 146th in Division I in shots per game at 2.73.

Worden is tied with Ceja and Makayla Demelo for the team lead in goals (3).

Long Beach State split a pair of matches last week. The Beach fell 1-0 to CSUN on Sept. 26 before defeating UC San Diego on Sept. 29. Here are the recaps;
