UC Santa Barbara Hands Long Beach State A 3-1 Defeat

Kassandra Ceja scores her fourth goal of the year for LBSU
SANTA BARBARA, Calif.—Playing in a heavy fog for most of the match, UC Santa Barbara defeated Long Beach State 3-1 Thursday night at Harder Stadium.
Long Beach State took an early lead. In the ninth minute, Makayla Demelo was fouled. After a video review, it was determined that LBSU would be awarded a penalty kick. Kassandra Ceja took the attempt and converted, shooting the ball into the upper right corner for her fourth goal of the year, giving the Beach a 1-0 lead.
UCSB tied the score in the 14th minute, as Devin Greer scored in the bottom left of the Long Beach State net. A video review was initiated to determine if the Gauchos were offside. The review confirmed Greer's fourth goal of the year.
UC Santa Barbara peppered Aurora Schuck with a pair of shots over the 15th and 17th minutes, which Schuck was able to save. UCSB outshot Long Beach State 9-2 over the first 45 minutes, 4-1 on goal. Schuck made three saves, and the score remained tied at one as the teams headed into the break.
Greer took the first shot of the second half in the 55th minute, an off-target attempt. On the ensuing LBSU possession, the Beach earned a corner, but the Gauchos successfully defended the set piece.
In the 64th minute, Ceja drove towards the UCSB net. As she neared the end line, she passed to Penny Smith, who put an attempt high above the goal. Two minutes later, Jordan Candelaria stole the ball just outside the 18. As she dribbled, UC Santa Barbara goalie Maddie Buckley came out to regain possession for the Gauchos.
Buckley saved a Ceja attempt in the 72nd minute. The rebound came out to Julia Moore, who put her attempt high off the goal. Long Beach State regained possession in the 74th, resulting in Demelo taking an off-target shot. The Beach turned away a UCSB corner the next time down for the Gauchos. The offensive possession for LBSU saw Ceja and Smith record attempts that were just off the mark.
The Gauchos scored the go-ahead tally in the 79th minute. UCSB pushed towards the LBSU goal. Chayse Yu passed to Ava Jarolimek. Jarolimek's shot was deflected into the bottom right of the goal. The Gauchos added insurance in the 83rd minute when Greer scored for the second time. Yu passed to Samantha Cristie who found Greer inside the 18. She went to the top right of the Long Beach State goal to increase the advantage to two.
