Costa And Franco Martinessi Reach Doubles Round Of 16 At ITA Southwest Regionals

The duo won their first match Saturday before falling in the Round of 16.
SAN DIEGO, Calif. – Long Beach State's doubles pair of Cecilia Costa and Paulina Franco Martinessi continued their main draw run at the ITA Southwest Regionals with a victory on Saturday before falling in the Round of 16.
Matched against Midori Castillo and Tanvi Narendran of Arizona to start Saturday's action, Costa and Franco Martinessi picked up an 8-5 win over the Wildcat duo. In a quick turnaround, the Beach immediately faced their next opponents, Stefania Rogozinska-Dzik and Anastasia Bozova of LMU. Long Beach State pushed the pair but were finally knocked out after a strong run with an 8-6 defeat in the Round of 16.
Franco Martinessi had no other action on the day, but the remaining five players in San Diego all had extra singles competition.
Freshman Thea Jagare was a straight sets winner against Big West competition, defeating Haily Huynh of UC Irvine 7-5, 6-3, while Diana De Simone also won, rallying from a first set loss to win 3-6, 7-5, 10-7.
In a close, excellent match Duru Soke of Pepperdine defeated Cecilia Costa 7-5, 5-7, and 10-8 in a supertiebreaker. Lily Pradkin of UCSB defeated Pamela Badillo 6-3, 6-3 and Arizona's Narendran defeated Daisy Carpenter 6-0, 6-1.
The Beach played two additional doubles matches, but dropped both as Hannah Galindo and Makeilah Nepomuceno of Hawai'i were 8-3 winners over De Simone and Carpenter, while Kelly Leung and Katelyn Vu of UC San Diego defeated Jagare and Badillo 8-4.
Long Beach State will have a brief break before closing out the fall schedule at the UNLV Fall Tournament in Las Vegas November 8-10.
