Dirtbags Drop Game Two to CSUN

Long Beach State attempted another late rally, but came up short in a 3-2 loss to the Matadors.
LONG BEACH, Calif. – Long Beach State dropped a close game two to CSUN on Saturday night. The Dirtbags (21-12, 8-6 Big West) rallied late once again, but came up a run short in a 3-2 loss.
Nico Zeglin was fantastic through four innings, allowing just one hit and a pair of walks while striking out six, but struggled in the fifth allowing three Matador runs with two outs in the frame.
The offense was silent for most of the night, not recording their first hit until a Rocco Peppi single in the sixth inning. Entering the ninth, they had just three hits on the night.
Facing the Matador closer, the Dirtbags started the bottom of the ninth with back-to-back walks. With runners on the corners, Kyle Ashworth singled in a run to left field. Cole Santander stepped to the plate next as a pinch hitter reaching on an error as another run came across to cut the deficit to 3-2. However, a strikeout and groundout would end the rally and the ballgame.
Connor Burns went 1-for-3 on the night, extending his hit streak to 12 consecutive games. His season average is up to .302 for the year.
Jonathan Carlos was tremendous out of the bullpen for the Dirtbags. The right-hander totaled four shutout innings on the bump, allowing just two hits while striking out four.
Long Beach State will look to salvage a game in the series tomorrow afternoon. First pitch at 1 p.m.
