Six Student-Athletes Win Events on Final Day of Beach Opener

The Beach also had six program top ten marks on the day.
LONG BEACH, Calif. – Long Beach State track and field closed out their opening weekend of outdoor season with six individual winners and six program top ten marks.

The day was off to a great start as the women's 4x100m Relay team picked up the first win of the day. The quartet of Jayda Rustemoglu, Kaitlyn Williams, Jaelyn Predium, and Alex Heerink-van Breda combined for a time of 45.73 edgining out Cal Poly Pomona for the top spot.
Ryley Fick had the other event victory for the women's team taking the top spot in the 800m. Her time of 2:12.56 was a tenth of a second faster than the second-place finisher.
On the men's side, Cristian Martinez claimed the first event win of the day in the 1500m. Posting a new lifetime-best time of 3:51.14, he was three-tenths of a second faster than the runner-up. The duo of Cameron Gill (3:42.54) and Quinn Garity (3:52.63) also crossed the line in the top five, finishing third and fourth respectively.
Martinez also finished second in the 800m race, just 0.06 seconds behind teammate Mohammed Mohamed. The graduate posted a time of 1:51.05 on his way to the victory.
In the throws, Sebastian Coleman had an incredible showing in Shot Put. With a throw of 17.58m (57-8.25), he not only won the event but moved into tenth on the Long Beach State all-time list. It also marks a new lifetime-best.
The final event victory of the day came in men's Triple Jump with Elijah Harris sitting atop the podium. Launching himself 14.82m (48-7.5), he beat out teammate Novye' James for the event victory. James' jump was 14.65m (48-0.75) for the second place finish.
Back to the women's team, KiiKii Brown had the best jump of her career in the Triple Jump. Going 12.35m (40-6.25), she moved into a tie for fifth all-time on the program top ten. She finished second in the event.
The duo of Maggie Lear and Annie Murphy also posted lifetime-bests finishing third and fourth, respectively in women's Pole Vault. Both cleared the bar at 3.85m (12-7.5) and put themselves in a tie for eighth on the all-time list.
Jaelyn Predium followed up her relay race victory with a time of 11.78 in the women's 100m dash. The time is a new lifetime-best for the sophomore and goes as the ninth-fastest time in program history.
The final top ten mark of the day came from freshman Alex Heerink-van Breda. Making her collegiate outdoor debut, she ran a 1:00.96 in the women's 400m Hurdles for a lifetime-best and second place finish. It ranks as the tenth fastest time in LBSU history.
Some other top finishers from the day include second-place finishes from Malia Talavou (women's Discus), Hailey Fune (100m Hurdles), Jayda Rustemoglu (200m), Kyle Jankans (men's High Jump), and TJ Wiggins (men's Discus)
The Beach will be back in action next weekend at the Ben Brown Invitational, hosted by Cal State Fullerton.
