Two Event Victories Highlight Rainy Day One at Ben Brown Invitational

Kash Powell and Sebastian Coleman both picked up wins on Friday.

FULLERTON, Calif. – Long Beach State began week two of the outdoor season with day one of the Ben Brown Invitational hosted by Cal State Fullerton. The duo of Kash Powell and Sebastian Coleman highlighted the day with a pair of event victories.
 
Day One Results
 
Powell picked up his victory in the men's 800m race, posting a new lifetime-best of 1:49.95. His time ranks just five-tenths off ranking in the top ten marks in program history.
 
Coleman's win came in the men's Hammer Throw. The senior captain posted a mark of 64.74m (212-5) that is just shy of his LBSU fifth-ranked lifetime-best set last season. He cruised to the victory by seven feet over the runner-up.
 
Ryley Fick continued to etch her name into the record book on Friday with yet another top ten mark. In the women's 5000m, she ran a 16:38.99 for the second fastest time in program history. She finished eighth for the event.
 
Another impressive distance performance came in the 800m from Jaxin Woodward. The junior ran a lifetime-best 2:14.04 on her way to a runner-up finish on Friday night. Also among the distance group, the duo of Mario Tavares (9:23.45) and Tessa Chen (11:52.24) just missed out on a podium finish with lifetime-bests and fourth-place finishes in their respective 3000m Steeplechase races.
 
In the jumps, Benjamin Ahenguah and Novye James were the biggest standouts finishing third and fourth respectively in men's Long Jump. Ahenguah went 6.92m (22-8.5) while James went 6.90m (22-7.75) in their first events of the weekend.
 
The Beach will wrap up their time at the Ben Brown Invitational tomorrow in Fullerton.
