Dirtbags Begin Five-Game Homestand with CBU on Tuesday

Long Beach State will take a four-game win streak into their midweek rematch with the Lancers.

LONG BEACH, Calif. – Long Beach State is set to begin a five-game homestand this week as they host California Baptist on Tuesday night. The Dirtbags will look to extend their current four-game win streak.

ABOUT THE 'BAGS
•  The Dirtbags enter the week with a 14-8 overall record and 3-3 mark in conference play. They currently own a four-game win streak after sweeping UCR this past weekend.
•  The offense owns a .256/.348/.425 slash line with 149 runs in their 22 games. Of the team's 191 hits, 72 have gone for extra bases, including 25 home runs which ranks second-most in the Big West. They also rank second in runs scored and third in hits, doubles, RBI, and total bases.
•  The pitching staff got back on track allowing just seven runs in the series at UC Riverside. Together, they own a team ERA of 4.38 and a 1.35 WHIP. In 195.1 innings of work, they have racked up 224 strikeouts to just 95 walks.
 
LAST WEEKEND
•   Long Beach State entered the win column during Big West play with a sweep of UC Riverside over the weekend. In the series, the Dirtbags posted a 25-7 run differential with five home runs in the three games.
•   In game one, an early two-run blast from Cole Santander put the 'Bags in front and a dominant outing from Graham Osman on the mound (6.2 IP, 11K) resulted in a series opening win.
•   Game two saw some late drama, with UCR rallying for three runs in the ninth to make it a one-run game. Sky Wells came out of the bullpen to put an end to it though with back-to-back strikeouts to end it.
•   The series finale was by far the most complete game as the offense powered out 14 runs on 12 hits to back Myles Patton's best start of the season, throwing 6.2 innings and striking out eight.
 
IN THE NATIONAL STATISTICAL RANKINGS
•  The Dirtbags, primarily the pitching staff, have found themselves statistically ranked among the Top 50 in the Valenzuela Era and that has continued once again this season.
•  The team's three shutout victories ranks tied for eleventh most in the nation, while their 17 sacrifice flies is 10th most. They also rank in the Top 50 in strikeout-to-walk ratio (19th, 2.99), walks per nine (26th, 3.46), sac bunts (37th, 12), strikeouts per nine (42nd, 10.3), WHIP (46th, 1.35), and ERA (50th, 4.38).
 
SCOUTING THE LANCERS
•  California Baptist enters the week with a 12-11 overall record, and coming off a series win against Seattle U this past weekend. They are set to host UC Riverside on Monday ahead of the rematch with the Dirtbags.
•  The offense is hitting .277 on the season with an .838 OPS. The team has totaled 158 runs in their 23 games with 85 of their 220 hits going for extra bases.
•  On the mound, they own a 6.21 ERA with a 1.71 WHIP. In 200 innings of work, they have 195 strikeouts compared to 117 walks.
 
AGAINST THE OPPONENT
•  This will be the fourth matchup between Long Beach State and California Baptist in program history, and second this season. The Dirtbags lead the all-time series 2-1.
•  The Dirtbags won the first meeting this season with an 8-6 victory in extra innings. The power showed up on both sides combining for six home runs ending with a Jack Hammond two-run shot in the top of the tenth.
