Track and Field Set for Busy Week on the Road

Long Beach State student-athletes will see competition at four different meets this week.
LONG BEACH, Calif. – After a weekend off, Long Beach State track and field is set for arguably their busiest week of the season. In total, they will compete in four meets at three different schools from Thursday through Saturday.

The Beach took this past weekend off after a quick and busy transition between their indoor and outdoor seasons last month. Their last week in competition came at the Ben Brown Invitational, where Rahni Turner's new school record highlighted a weekend with five event victories.
Along with the 100m Hurdles program record and event victory, she also helped the Beach win both the 4x100m and 4x400m Relay races. The sophomore was awarded the first Big West Women's Track Athlete of the Week for her efforts.
Sebastian Coleman also earned weekly honors, his fifth career Big West Men's Field Athlete of the Week, after three top ten finishes in the throws events. The most notable came in the Hammer Throw, where he posted a season-best on the way to victory.
Currently, the Beach has 26 marks ranked in the NCAA Top Ten, led by Turner's nation-leading mark in the women's 100m Hurdle and Kash Powell in the men's 800m. They also have 11 marks that currently lead the Big West.
Looking at the meets this week, both days of the UCR Spring Classic Multis will begin at 11 a.m. with Decathlon events followed immediately by Heptahlon events at 12 p.m.
Friday at the Aztec Invitational will strictly be throws events taking place at UC San Diego. The women's Hammer will begin at 2 p.m. The rest of the events will take place all day Saturday starting at 9 a.m.
The Bob Larson Distance Carnival at UCLA on Friday starts at 5 p.m. while the Rafer Johnson/JJK events start at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday.
