
LBSU Tennis Hosts Cal Poly for Saturday Dual Match

The Beach look to add a third victory to their Big West conference record.

WHAT'S COMING UP:Â Â
The Beach return home after an East Coast road trip against Harvard and Dartmouth. They resume conference action against Cal Poly on Saturday March 4 at Rhodes Tennis Center. This will be the third conference match of the season as they look to add another win to their Big West record. Â
ABOUT LBSU:Â Â
For the season, the Beach own a 2-0 record in conference action. Peppi Ramstedt leads the Beach with a 13-6 doubles record and Hana Becirovic Novak leads the Beach with a 10-5 singles record. Additionally, Ramstedt and Rhona Cook have started off strong in dual match season and currently own a 6-3 doubles record while Ramstedt and Doga Akyurek own a 3-0 doubles record. Entering Saturday's match, the Beach lead the all-time series against Cal Poly 29-10-1. Â
ABOUT CAL POLY:Â Â
The Mustangs currently own a 2-5 record for the season and are seeking their first conference victory of the year. They recently picked up a 4-1 road victory over San Jose State on Saturday February 25. They begin back-to-back conference matches against UC Riverside on Friday March 3 and Long Beach State on Saturday March 4. For the year, Alexandra Ozerets has a 5-1 singles record while Kennedy Buntrock owns a 4-3 doubles record. Â
LAST TIME OUT:Â Â
To end the Beach's East Coast road trip, Long Beach State rallied for a 4-3 comeback victory over Dartmouth. Â
After dropping the doubles point in a grueling road match at Alexis Boss Tennis Center, LBSU rebounded in singles action and captured four hard-fought singles victories. LBSU garnered wins in flights six and three to take a 2-1 lead over Dartmouth. The Beach had to fight back once more after the Big Green evened the score on court five. LBSU displayed its resiliency by fighting back and collecting wins on courts four and two to earn the comeback victory.   Â
On court six, Becirovic Novak defeated Brooke Hess by a score of 6-4, 6-2 to tie the dual match at 1-1.  Â
To break the tie, Mathilde Tranberg got the best of Katie Weber on court three in a 6-3, 6-0 victory.  Â
It was a back-and-forth match as the Big Green evened the score again at 2-2 after Emily Zhou won her flight against Rhona Cook on court five, 7-5, 6-1.  Â
It was a thrilling victory as Doga Akyurek and Peppi Ramstedt fought back in their respective matches to win their flights and clinch the Beach's victory. During both flights Akyurek and Ramstedt extended their contests to three sets to earn the hard-fought victory. Â
On court four, Ujvala Jupalli won the first set, 6-4, but Akyurek stormed back to win the next two sets, 6-1, 6-3 giving the Beach a 3-2 lead. To clinch the Beach's final point, Peppi Ramstedt garnered a 4-6, 6-0, 7-5 comeback victory over Ashley Hess on court two.   Â
TENNIS TRADITION:Â Â Â
The traditional player cheer pre-match and each time the team wins a match point is "Here We Go Beach" followed by all supporters in attendance then cheering the same "Here We Go Beach!"Â Â Â
