Fick Sets School Record in Win at UC Riverside Invitational

Both Ryley Fick and Allie Scimia broke the previous program record set during the 2011 season.
RIVERSIDE, Calif. – Ryley Fick and Allie Scimia made history on Saturday morning, beating the 11-year old school record at the UC Riverside Invitational. Fick also claimed the individual title of the meet with a first place finish.

Fick sits as the new program 6K record holder crossing the line in a remarkable time of 20:07.5, shattering the previous program best by almost a full 20 seconds set by Rosa Del Toro during the 2011 season. Her time was also seven seconds faster than the second place finisher and ranks in the top ten in UCR course history.
If not for her teammate, Scimia would be the all-time record holder with her Saturday morning performance. The sophomore's time of 20:16.5 is 10 seconds faster than Del Toro's mark putting her in second on the all-time list and puts her in the UCR course top 25. She would cross the line in fourth giving the Beach two top five finishers.
Anitha Graves was third across for Long Beach State, finishing in the top 50 with a new PR time of 21:24.1. Brieanna Tafoya was not far behind, finishing 58th with a new time of 21:28.1.
Lakely Nealis ran a PR with a time of 22:29.3 while Jaxin Woodward posted a time of 22:33.6. Shortly after was Maggie Bauer with a time of 22:38.6 who rounded out the Beach scorers.
Overall, the women finished seventh with 257 points in the team standings. They were fourth as a group among the Big West schools.
Micheal Phillips was the first of the Beach men across the line, finishing ninth overall and third among Big West competitors with a new personal best of 24:02.1. It also moves him into third in LBSU history on the men's 8K top ten.
Making his debut in the 8k was Quinn Garity finishing 62nd place with a time of 24:40.1 followed by Ryan Hernandez placing 86th with a new personal best of 24:57.7.
Antonio Carbajal (25:14.4) and Mario Tavares (25:14.4) finished back-to-back just outside the top 100. Antonio Munoz finished with 25:20.6 and Junious Brown got a personal best at 25:23.3 to round out the Beach scorers.
The men finished 14th in the overall team standings with 351 points. Among the Big West institutions they finished sixth.
The Beach will be back on the road on Saturday, October 15th at the Bronco Invitational.
