Four Homers Power Dirtbags to 16-2 Rout of CSU Bakersfield

Long Beach State extended their win streak to six straight with a series opening win over the ‘Runners.
The scoring started in the top of the first and never really stopped with three runs in the first, three in the third, four in the fifth, five in the sixth, and the final run in the seventh.
It was all about the power in the series opener as the Dirtbags tallied seven extra-base hits, four of which left the yard. Three of the home runs came in the fifth inning with Peyton Schulze and Chase Luttrell going back-to-back followed by a two-run shot by Tanner Carlson two batters later. The fourth dinger of the ballgame came in the seventh on a solo shot from Jonathon Long.

The three home runs in the fifth mark the first time the Dirtbags have accomplished that since March 31, 2009 at Santa Clara when they launched three in the ninth inning on their way to a 14-4 victory. They also totaled four homers that day as well.
On the mound, Jack Noble was dominant tossing five shutout innings. The right-hander surrendered just one hit and one walk while striking out three. He retired the final seven 'Runners he faced on the way to his fifth victory of the season.
In total, four Dirtbags registered multi-hit efforts led by Luttrell's 3-for-4 game. The junior was a triple shy of the cycle with a double, home run, two runs scored, and four RBI. The homer marked the 18th of his career moving him into a tie for tenth-most in program history.
Right behind him in the lineup was Schulze and another three-hit night. The freshman was 3-for-3 with two walks, two RBI, and four runs scored. His fifth inning homer was the second of his young career.
Long notched a two-hit night, going 2-for-4 with two walks and four runs scored. Alex Pimentel recorded a 2-for-4 night with a walk, RBI, and two runs scored.
The Dirtbags will look to win their third consecutive series tomorrow night with first pitch against CSU Bakersfield at 6:00 p.m.
