ABOUT LAST WEEK
• The Dirtbags were perfect last week, going 4-0 with an upset win over #8 UCLA before a clean sweep of UC Riverside in the weekend series.
• Against the Bruins, Peyton Schulze was the hero. The true freshman sent the first pitch of the bottom of the twelfth to dead center for a walkoff home run to upset the number eight team in the country. It was the seventh victory over a ranked opponent for the Dirtbags.
• Long Beach State took a 14-game win streak against UC Riverside into their weekend series and swept the Highlanders to extend it to 17 games. It is the fifth consecutive series sweep over UCR and they have not lost since 2016.
• Game one ended on a bases loaded, walkoff walk to Tyler White to give the Dirtbags their fourth walkoff win of the season.
• Game two was all about the offense as Long Beach State posted 11 runs in the win led by Schulze's 3-for-5 with three doubles and Alex Pimentel's 2-for-3 with a home run and three RBI.
• The series finale was a historic one as Juaron Watts-Brown threw the second no-hitter in program history in the 4-0 victory.
MIDWEEK FIGHT WITH USC
• Long Beach State's offense showed up, recording their seventh double-digit scoring game in the 11-5 victory over USC on Wednesday.
• Four Dirtbags posted multi-hit efforts led by Eddie Saldivar's 2-for-4 day with three runs scored and four RBI. Rocco Peppi reached in all five of his appearances, going 3-for-3 with a walk, hit by pitch, and pair of RBI.
• On the mound, the combination of Ethan Clough, Jonathan Carlos, Dalton Ponce, and Matt Fields totaled 5.1 scoreless frames out of the bullpen with eight strikeouts.
ABOUT THE DIRTBAGS
• Long Beach State enters the weekend series on a five-game winning streak and have won seven of their last eight games. They own a 22-25 overall record and a 10-11 mark in conference play which has them in eighth place in the standings.
• The rollercoaster of a year has consisted of seven wins over ranked opponents, three of which were Top 10 teams. Unfortunately it has also included separated six-game and ten-game losing streaks.
• It's been the pitching staff leading the charge, posting the lowest opponent average in league while ranking second in the conference in ERA and strikeouts. The offense is middle of the pack with the seventh best batting average and on-base percentage.
ABOUT CSU BAKERSFIELD
• The 'Runners enter the weekend with a 16-27 overall record and 9-12 mark in conference play. They are one game back of the Dirtbags in the Big West standings.
• As a team, they are slashing .259/.353/.377 and averaging just under five runs per game. They have two regulars hitting over .300 with AJ Miller leading in just about every offensive category.
• On the mound, the pitching staff owns a 5.32 ERA and .288 opponent average. The group has totaled 357 strikeouts to 181 walks in over 380 innings of work.
AGAINST THE RUNNERS
• This is just the second series between Long Beach State and CSU Bakersfield with the Dirtbags winning three of four at Blair last season. In those four games, LBSU outscored CSUB 15-4.
