Long Beach State saw their winning streak come to an end in a 7-4 loss on Saturday night.
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – Long Beach State (23-26, 11-12 Big West) suffered a 7-4 loss to CSU Bakersfield (17-28, 10-13 Big West) in game two of the series. With the loss, the Dirtbags' season-best six-game win streak has come to an end.
The 'Runners got the scoring started early with a run in the bottom of the first, but was quickly answered by a Long Beach State run in the second. Unfortunately, that would be the closest to a lead the Dirtbags would see as CSU Bakersfield rally for four runs in the bottom half of the second to jump out front.
Peyton Schulze and Chase Luttrell stayed hot at the plate each recording RBI knocks in the loss. Schuzle scorched a two-out double to right-center plating the Dirtbags' second run of the ballgame in the third inning while Luttrell plated a pair with a two-RBI single in the fifth.
The Long Beach State pitching staff struggled for most of the night, only recording a single one-two-three inning in the eighth when Jake Rons took over on the mound. Prior to that, the 'Runners had at least one baserunner in every inning.
Luttrell (2-for-4) and Eddie Saldivar (1-for-4) both kept their hitting streaks alive in the loss, as both sit at 10 consecutive games with a knock.
The Dirtbags and 'Runners will clash in a rubber match tomorrow afternoon to decide the series. First pitch at Hardt Field is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
