Dirtbags End Home Stand on Wednesday Night against USC

Long Beach State’s nine-game home stretch comes to an end this week as they take on the Trojans.
LONG BEACH, Calif. – Long Beach State will take a four-game win streak into their final game of the home stand as USC comes to Bohl Diamond at Blair Field for a Wednesday night matchup.

ABOUT LAST WEEK
• The Dirtbags were perfect last week, going 4-0 with an upset win over #8 UCLA before a clean sweep of UC Riverside in the weekend series.
• Against the Bruins, Peyton Schulze was the hero. The true freshman sent the first pitch of the bottom of the twelfth to dead center for a walkoff home run to upset the number eight team in the country. It was the seventh victory over a ranked opponent for the Dirtbags.
• Long Beach State took a 14-game win streak against UC Riverside into their weekend series and swept the Highlanders to extend it to 17 games. It is the fifth consecutive series sweep over UCR and they have not lost since 2016.
• Game one ended on a bases loaded, walkoff walk to Tyler White to give the Dirtbags their fourth walkoff win of the season.
• Game two was all about the offense as Long Beach State posted 11 runs in the win led by Schulze's 3-for-5 with three doubles and Alex Pimentel's 2-for-3 with a home run and three RBI.
• The series finale was a historic one as Juaron Watts-Brown threw the second no-hitter in program history in the 4-0 victory.
ABOUT USC
• The Trojans enter the week with a 24-21 overall record and 8-16 mark in conference play. They currently rank last in the PAC-12 standings, but are coming off a series win over Arizona.
• USC is slashing .277/.356/.452 as a team, averaging 5.87 runs per game. They have scored six or more runs in three of their last four games with a 3-1 mark in those ballgames. They have three players hitting above .300 with Tyresse Turner leading the way in most offensive categories.
• The pitching staff owns a 4.85 team ERA with a WHIP of 1.42 this season. Opponents are hitting to a .265 clip against them while owning a 342-158 strikeout-to-walk ratio. Projected starter, Isaac Esqueda owns a 6.98 ERA this season with a .283 batting average against in 29.2 innings.

THE HISTORY AROUND JUARON'S NO-HITTER
• Juaron Watts-Brown made history on Sunday throwing the second ever no-hitter in Long Beach State baseball history and the first solo no-no in program history. The only other no-hitter in program history was a combined no-hitter from Chris Mathewson (7 IP) and Darren McCaughan in 2015.
• It is also just the 19th no-hitter in Big West Conference history and the first since 2018. Furthermore, it is just the 13th by a conference pitcher to come as a nine-inning complete game.
• The redshirt freshman recorded 16 strikeouts on the afternoon, finishing one shy of the program record set by Jered Weaver in 2004. It also marks the first complete shutout by a freshman since Weaver did it in 2002 and first complete game by a freshman since Mathewson in 2015.
• Recording at least one strikeout in each frame, he had a span of five consecutive strikeouts from the second to the fourth inning. It is the first time a Dirtbag pitcher has done that since 2016.each against SDSU.
