Gonzalez, Williams Lead Beach on Day One of Steve Scott Invitational

Long Beach State returned to action after a week off with competition at UC Irvine.
LONG BEACH, Calif. – Long Beach State returned to action this weekend competing at the Steve Scott Invitational, hosted by UC Irvine. Marcos Gonzalez and Kaitlyn Williams led the way with marks in the program's top ten in the record books.
Day One Results
In the men's Javelin, Gonzalez finished first posting a lifetime-best throw in his final attempt on Friday afternoon. Launching the javelin, 64.36m (211-2), he took the top spot in the event and now sits at number eight in the Long Beach State record book.
Over in the jumps, Williams finished second in the women's Long Jump. Posting a mark of 5.96m (19-6.75) to set a new personal best and put her at number ten in the program's record book.
The trio of Sebastian Coleman, Alec Jones, and Charlie Vernoy finished one-two-three in men's Hammer. Coleman posted a throw 63.12m (207-1) to take the spot with Jones (62.61m, 205-5) and Vernoy (61.30m, 201-1). Pablo Gamez also posted a top five finish with a mark of 58.66m (192-5).
Cyprus Rice also picked up a victory on the day, claiming the number one spot in men's Pole Vault. The freshman finished shy of his personal best clearing 4.86m (15-11.25). Spencer Eley also finished top five in the event with a mark of 4.56m (14-11.5).
Some other notable marks, in women's Hammer Keeley Rasmussen posted a throw of 53.59m (175-10) to finish second. In men's Long Jump Benjamin Ahenguah shattered his lifetime-best by over two feet with a mark of 7.19m (23-7.25). Rahni Turner took home fifth in the women's Long Jump launching herself to a new PR of 5.82m (19-1.25).
Long Beach State will wrap up the Steve Scott Invitational tomorrow. Competition begins at noon.
