Washington Breaks Own School Record on Final Day of Steve Scott Invitational

Long Beach State had a dominant day in Irvine picking up six wins another program top ten mark.
LONG BEACH, Calif. – Long Beach State posted another very successful day in Irvine, Calif. with six individual event victories to close out the Steve Scott Invitational. Crystal Washington was the headliner breaking her own school record in women's Triple Jump.
Day Two Results
Washington continues to outdo her own marks as she set yet another lifetime-best on Saturday afternoon. Clearing 12.88m (42-3.25) surpassed her own mark by a half-inch for a new school record as well as claiming the top spot in the women's Triple Jump.
Maggie Lear also had a lifetime-best performance in women's Pole Vault, clearing 3.80m (12-5.5) on her way to a fourth place finish. In addition to her PR, that puts her at number eight in Long Beach State's all-time record books for the event.
The first of Long Beach State's six victories came in women's High Jump as Imani Carmouche just missed her career-best by the clearing the bar at 1.79m (5-10.5) for the victory. Jason Smith came out later in the day and gave the Beach a High Jump sweep, winning the men's side. The fifth year cleared 2.10m (6-10.75 to claim the top spot.
The final field victory came in men's Discus as the trio of Sebastian Coleman, Alec Jones, and Charlie Vernoy finished one-two-three for the second time this weekend. Coleman claimed the top spot with a throw of 57.17m (187-6) with Jones (57.06m, 187-2) and Vernoy (55.86m, 183-3) to finish it out.
Vernoy also posted a season-best in men's Shot Put with a throw of 16.85m (55-3.5) to finish second in the event.
Out on the track, the men's 4x100m Relay team took him the top spot. The quartet of Joseph Anderson, Mekhi Mays, Anthony Palumbo, and Malik Harness raced to a 41.07 on their way to the win.
The final Beach win of the day came in the women's 1500m as Ryley Fick crossed the line first with a time of 4:32.08. Teammate Allie Scimia also competed in the event and posted a new lifetime-best time of 4:36.57 to finish third.
Other great performances on the track include a new lifetime-best for both Michael Phillips and Brieanna Tafoya in the 800m. Phillips' time of 1:51.73 gave him a fourth place finish while Tafoya crossed the line in 2:12.57 in fifth.
After a phenomenal day yesterday, Benajamin Ahenguah continued his success on Saturday in the men's Triple Jump with a mark of 14.49m (47-6.5) to finish fifth, shattering his previous PR by over a foot. Elijah Harris also shattered his lifetime-best by almost two feet to finish ninth with a jump of 13.98m (45-10.5)
In the final event of the day, Connor Phillips finished runner-up in the men's 1500m with a time of 3:51.62 to close out the weekend.
Long Beach State is back in action next week with the Titan Tune-Up as well as the beginning of championship season as the Big West Multis Championships start in Davis, Calif. on Friday.
