LBSU Track and Field Set to Compete at UC Irvine this Weekend

The Beach will be competing in the Steve Scott Invitational this Friday and Saturday.
LONG BEACH, Calif. – Long Beach State will be heading to Anteater Stadium at UCI to compete in the Steve Scott Invitational this weekend.

On Friday, April 29th, the field events will begin at 11 a.m. with the women's hammer throw. The track events will begin in the evening with the men's 3000m steeplechase at 7 p.m. Saturday's events will start in the afternoon with the men's shot put at 12 p.m. and the women's 4x100m relay at 12:30 p.m.
The Beach is coming off an off-week from completion last week after having athletes competing in the Pacific Coast Intercollegiate, Beach Invitational, Bryan Clay Invitational, and Mt. SAC Relays the week before.
In the past few weeks we've seen the Long Beach State team performing at their best, as Ryley Fick not only posted her personal best of 10:21.59 in the women's 3000m Steeplechase, but secured a spot in Long Beach top-ten history. Her time beat the previous program record by an entire second, one that had held firm for almost 10 years.
The team also celebrated Michael Phillips, a junior distance runner who was named the Men's Big West Track Athlete of the Week. This award is his first Big West Honor, and came after he set a school record at the Bryan Clay Invitational. He currently owns the top spot for the 5000m, running a time of 13:58.20 this season. Phillips also owns the top spot in Long Beach State history in the men's 1500m with a time of 3:41.08, beating the previous record that had stood strong for almost 45 years.

UCI invites fans to come see the action with adult tickets being $10 and children 17 years old or younger being $6. Anteater Stadium has also implemented a clear bag policy. For all of the spectator information, click HERE.
