Late Oregon State Rally Leads to 8-2 Dirtbags Loss

Long Beach State battled all night, but the Beavers plated six runs late to take the series.
CORVALLIS, Ore. – Long Beach State (15-18) were either tied or leading for most of the night, but a late rally from No. 2 Oregon State (26-7) led to an 8-2 loss for the Dirtbags.
Sebastian Murillo got the offense going with a leadoff double in the fourth followed later by a Jonathon Long single to put the 'Bags out in front. Unfortunately, Oregon State answered in the bottom half to knot things up at one.
In the sixth, three consecutive singles from Charlie Loust, Murillo, and Rocco Peppi loaded the bases. Chase Luttrell hit a sharp groundball down the first base line that was knocked down for the out, but still gave Long Beach State a 2-1 lead.
However, the Beavers had an answer once again plating a run in the bottom half to even it up at two.
The seventh is when the momentum turned as Connor Burns was robbed of extra bases in the top half before OSU recorded three runs on three doubles to give them their first lead of the ballgame. They opened it up even more with three in the bottom half.
The Dirtbags put two runners on in the top of the ninth, but a strikeout would strand both and give Long Beach State their fourth consecutive loss.
Luis Ramirez got the start on the mound, tossing 3.2 innings allowing just one run. It is just the second earned run he has allowed this season. He also struck out five while surrendering four hits and a pair of walks.
Offensively, Rocco Peppi record yet another multi-hit game going 2-for-4 at the plate. He owns a team-leading 15 multi-hit games on the season. Sebastian Murillo also notched a two hit game with a run scored.
Long Beach State will look to salvage a win against No. 2 Oregon State in the series finale tomorrow. First pitch is scheduled for 1:35 p.m.
