Long Beach State Cannot Avoid Sweep against No. 2 Oregon State

CORVALLIS, Ore. – Long Beach State (15-19) fell behind early and could not get the bats going as No. 2 Oregon State (27-7) took the series finale, 11-3, on Saturday afternoon. It marks the second time this season the Dirtbags have been swept in a weekend series.
The Beavers wasted no time getting their offense going scoring five times in the bottom of the first and three more in the second.
Long Beach State responded in the third as a Jonathon Long single up the middle plated two runs cutting into the deficit. The Dirtbags also plated a run in fifth on a sacrifice fly from Rocco Peppi, but that would be all the scoring the offense could muster against Oregon State's pitching.
Oregon State blew the game open with four runs in the bottom of the sixth as their lead grew to double-digits. The Beavers would add one more in the seventh on their way to a 14-3 win.
Chase Luttrell had a two-hit effort, going 2-for-3 with a double while Sebastian Murillo reached three times with a 1-for-2 day with a pair of walks and a pair of runs scored.
The Dirtbags return home for a midweek at Bohl Diamond at Blair Field this week. They will host Fresno State on Wednesday at 6:00 p.m.
