Dirtbags to Host Round Two with Fresno State at Blair Field

Long Beach State will look for the two-game season sweep over the Bulldogs on Wednesday night.

ABOUT LAST WEEK
•  The Dirtbags suffered an 0-4 week last week with a midweek loss to California Baptist before being swept by No. 2 Oregon State on the weekend. The offense struggled, scoring just seven runs in the four games.
•  Against CBU, Long Beach State fell behind early with a Lancer three-spot in the second. The Dirtbags lone run came didn't come until a Chase Luttrell RBI single in the seventh.
•  Game one against the Beavers was a pitchers' dual that went in favor of OSU. Outside of the three-run third inning, Marques Johnson and Juaron Watts-Brown surrendered just four hits on the day. Luttrell was once again responsible for the lone run with a solo home run in the 3-1 loss.
•  Game two was back-and-forth through six innings with a 2-2 score heading into the seventh when Oregon State blew it open with three runs in each the eighth and ninth innings on their way to an 8-2 victory.
•  The series finale was one-sided from the start as the Beavers scoring five runs in the bottom of the first on their way to a 14-3 victory for the sweep.
 
LAST MATCHUP WITH FRESNO STATE
•  Wednesday represents the second half of the home-and-home series with Fresno State with Long Beach State taking the matchup in Fresno last month.
•  The Dirtbags had their best offensive showing at the time scoring 19 runs on 20 hits winning by 12 runs. All nine starters registered at least one hit and one RBI with eight of the nine also recording an RBI.
•  Luttrell led the way, going 4-for-5 with two doubles, home run, and six RBI finishing a triple shy of the cycle. Charlie Loust made his return to the starting lineup that night with a 3-for-4 day with two doubles and two RBI.
 
ABOUT FRESNO STATE
•  The Bulldogs enter the week with a 17-18 overall record coming off a series loss to Abilene Christian this past weekend. They are 5-5 in their last 10 games.
•  The offense owns a .283/.361/.454 slash line averaging just under six runs per game. Zach Morgan continues to lead the way with a .386 average and 1.032 OPS. Overall they have three regulars above a .300 average and seven with an OPS above .800.
•  The pitching staff owns a 4.33 team ERA and 1.35 WHIP. They have just three guys with sub-3.00 ERAs and have allowed 21 runs in their last three games.
 
AGAINST THE BULLDOGS
•  This will be the 122nd meeting between Fresno State and Long Beach State with the Dirtbags trailing the all-time series 53-66-2. However, they are 32-23-2 when playing in Long Beach.
•  Over the last 10 meetings, Long Beach State is 4-6 but are 6-3-1 in the last 10 times playing at Blair Field.
