Dirtbags Snap Losing Streak with 5-2 Win over North Dakota State

3/5/2022 7:03:00 PM | Baseball

Long Beach State snapped their six-game losing streak on Saturday.

LONG BEACH, Calif. – The Dirtbags came out with a 5-2 victory over North Dakota State on Saturday afternoon. The win snaps Long Beach State's six-game losing streak and moves them to 3-6 on the season.

Making his first start of the 2022 season, Jack Noble got the ball on Saturday and turned in a quality start. In six innings, he allowed just two runs on five hits and a walk while striking out six. The right-hander is now 2-0 on the year with a 1.17 ERA in 15.1 innings pitched.

The Bison got on the board first with a two-out home run in the top of the first, but the Dirtbags responded with a run of their own in the bottom half.

After a leadoff double from Chase Luttrell on the first pitch, he moved up to third on a flyout, and came in to score on squeeze play with Eddie Saldivar. For Saldivar, it is the fifth RBI of the season.

Long Beach State kept the bats going with two more runs in the third. Jonathon Long brought in the first with a single into center with the bases loaded. The second run came on an infield fly rule that caused commotion with both teams, but ultimately gave the Dirtbags a 3-1 lead.

Chris Jimenez led off the bottom half of the fourth, crushing a ball down the left field line for his first home run of the season. It also marks the third homer of the senior's career.

The Bison pushed a run across in the sixth, but LBSU got that run back in the seventh on a Peyton Schulze RBI single. The true freshman has earned his spot in the starting lineup, hitting .571 through his first seven career at-bats.

The bullpen took over from there as Marques Johnson tossed two scoreless innings without allowing a hit followed by a quick one-two-three ninth from Devereaux Harrison for his second save of the season.

Tanner Carlson was the spark at the bottom of the Dirtbag lineup today, going 3-for-4 with a run scored. The trio at the top of the lineup, Luttrell, Rocco Peppi, and Saldivar, all turned in multi-hit performances as well.

The No. 22 ranked Dirtbags will look to take the series tomorrow afternoon. The rubber match with North Dakota State is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. and will be streamed live on ESPN+
