Dirtbags Set for Round Two against Pepperdine in Malibu

Long Beach State will finish their home-and-home with the Waves in a Tuesday midweek in Malibu, Calif.
LONG BEACH, Calif. – The Dirtbags will play their fifth straight road game this week as they head to Malibu, Calif. for a Tuesday game at Pepperdine. The matchup will be the teams' second of the season after Long Beach State hosted the Waves a few weeks ago.

ABOUT LAST WEEK
• The Dirtbags went 2-2 last week with a midweek win over Fresno State before dropping their first conference series to CSUN. It is the first Big West series loss since the season opener at Hawai'i last year.
• The midweek against Fresno State was dominated by Long Beach State with the Dirtbags scoring a season-high 19 runs on a season-high 20 hits. Chase Luttrell led the way, going 4-for-5 with two doubles, a home run, and six RBI.
• In game one against CSUN, the Dirtbags came out on top 11-8 led by three-hit games from Luttrell, Long, Saldivar and Murillo. Saldivar also had a career-high three RBI in the win.
• The Dirtbags attempted to rally late in game two with a run in the eighth and a solo home run from Chris Jimenez in the ninth to make it a one-run game. CSUN would hold off the 'Bags though in a 4-3 win.
• In Sunday's rubber match, the Matadors jumped out to an early 5-0 lead before LBSU could push a run across. Against, single runs in the eighth and ninth on home runs from Tanner Carlson and Rocco Peppi served as a late rally attempt but the Matadors came out on top, 7-3, to take the series.
AGAINST THE WAVES
• Tuesday is game two of the season home-and-home with Pepperdine. The Dirtbags won the first meeting, 2-1, behind a dominant pitching performance from Voelker, Johnson, and Fields.
• Long Beach State scored their runs on a first inning Pepperdine error and a Carlson RBI single in the seventh before the Waves got their lone run in the eighth.
• Historically, the Dirtbags own a 69-61-2 record against Pepperdine including four straight and six of the last seven. Long Beach State is 28-29-2 all-time when playing in Malibu, Calif.
ABOUT PEPPERDINE
• The Waves enter the week with a 14-8 overall record and 4-2 West Coast Conference record. They are currently riding a four-game win streak after a midweek win over CSU Bakersfield and a sweep of Pacific in the weekend series.
• The offense is slashing .272/.347/.392 on the season and are averaging 5.63 runs per game. John Peck, responsible for the lone Wave run in the first meeting, leads the team in average (.382), runs (20), hits (34), home runs (3), RBI (21), total bases (53), OBP (.452), slugging (.596), and stolen bases (3).

• UC Irvine (3 first place votes, 92 points) and UC Santa Barbara (1 first place votes, 81 points) also received first place votes and round out the top three in the poll.
