Dirtbags Win Back-and-Forth Contest at Pepperdine

In a game that saw three ties and two lead changes, Long Beach State prevailed 5-4.
Pepperdine got the scoring started with a run in the bottom of the first, but Long Beach State responded in the next half inning with an RBI single from Tyler White. Both teams would score in the third tying things up through three and a half.

After the Waves reclaimed the lead in the fourth, RBI singles from Jonathon Long and Devereaux Harrison put Long Beach State back out in front in the fifth. Tanner Carlson would add a much needed insurance run with an RBI single of his own in the sixth to make it 5-3.

On the mound, Noah Carabajal got his second midweek start of the season, tossing three innings allowing two runs on five hits while striking out three. He handed the ball off to Dalton Ponce (1-1), who got the win after two innings of work with just one run allowed before Jonathan Carlos registered a pair of scoreless innings.
Matt Fields entered in the eighth to close out the game with two innings, allowing an unearned run in the eighth before retiring the side in order in the ninth for his third save of the season.
In a total team effort, the Dirtbags scored five runs on 12 hits as all nine starters recorded a hit in the victory.
Long led the way, going 3-for-5 at the plate with a double, two RBI, a run scored, and a stolen base. Carlson also recorded a multi-hit game with a 2-for-5 performance notching a run and RBI as well.
The Dirtbags return home to Bohl Diamond at Blair Field this weekend for their conference series against UC San Diego.
