Dirtbags Return to Blair for Weekend Series against UC San Diego

This weekend marks the end of a five-game road stretch for Long Beach State.
LONG BEACH, Calif. – Long Beach State returns to the friendly confines of Bohl Diamond at Blair Field this weekend as they play host to UC San Diego for a three-game series. It marks the end of five consecutive road games over the last two weeks.

ABOUT LAST WEEK
• The Dirtbags went 2-2 last week with a midweek win over Fresno State before dropping their first conference series to CSUN. It is the first Big West series loss since the season opener at Hawai'i last year.
• The midweek against Fresno State was dominated by Long Beach State with the Dirtbags scoring a season-high 19 runs on a season-high 20 hits. Chase Luttrell led the way, going 4-for-5 with two doubles, a home run, and six RBI.
• In game one against CSUN, the Dirtbags came out on top 11-8 led by three-hit games from Luttrell, Long, Saldivar and Murillo. Saldivar also had a career-high three RBI in the win.
• The Dirtbags attempted to rally late in game two with a run in the eighth and a solo home run from Chris Jimenez in the ninth to make it a one-run game. CSUN would hold off the 'Bags though in a 4-3 win.
• In Sunday's rubber match, the Matadors jumped out to an early 5-0 lead before LBSU could push a run across. Against, single runs in the eighth and ninth on home runs from Tanner Carlson and Rocco Peppi served as a late rally attempt but the Matadors came out on top, 7-3, to take the series.
MIDWEEK IN MALIBU
• The Tuesday midweek match against Pepperdine marked the second game of this season's home-and-home series with the Waves and the 'Bags came out on top, 5-4.
• In a total team effort, all nine starters recorded a hit with multi-hit efforts from Jonathon Long and Tanner Carlson. Long led the way with a 3-for-5 game with a double, run scored, and two RBI.
• On the mound, Carabajal, Ponce, Carlos, and Fields combined to strike out 10 Wave hitters while issuing just one walk. Fields recorded his third save of the season by throwing the final two innings in the win.
ABOUT UC SAN DIEGO
• The Tritons enter the weekend with 9-15 overall record and a 1-2 mark in conference play, coming off a shutout victory over San Diego State on Tuesday night. In their conference opening series, they fell in two of three against Cal Poly.
• As a team, they are slashing .261/.364/.406 averaging 5.4 runs per game. Jalen Smith leads the way with a .309 average while the duo of Marc Filia and Matt Halbach have the been the power with 4 home runs in each.
• The pitching staff owns a 4.91 team ERA with opponents hitting .258 against them. Izaak Martinez has the been the best arm on the staff with a 1.80 ERA in seven appearances thus far.
