Coleman Leads Throwers on Day One of Trojan Invitational

The LBSU throws team had their first two events of the weekend with the Discus and Hammer.
LOS ANGELES, Calif. - The Long Beach State throws squad got the Trojan Invitational started on Friday afternoon, competing in both the Hammer and Discus. Sebastian Coleman led the way with a Discus win and a second place finish in Hammer.
Day One Results
The reigning Big West Men's Field Athlete of the Week picked up right where he left off with a fantastic effort in the men's Discus to pick up the victory. On his fourth throw of the day, he posted a mark of 58.47m (191' 10") beating teammate Charlie Vernoy by almost four feet. The throw is good for a new lifetime-best and seventh on the Long Beach State all-time list.
Coleman continued his strong start to the weekend with a runner-up finish in men's Hammer with a throw of 64.98m (213' 2"). It puts him into seventh on the all-time list beating out his opening weekend mark for a new lifetime-best.
Alec Jones also turned in a record book changing effort in the Hammer Throw, launching it 63.65m (208' 10") for a third place finish. It improves on his personal best, ranking ninth all-time in program history. The senior also finished fourth in the Discus with a throw of 55.48m (182').
The rest of the men's throwers also turned in great marks with Vernoy finished second in Discus (57.31m, 188 feet) and fifth in Hammer (61.44m, 201-7). The Hammer throw is a new lifetime-best for the senior captain. Pablo Gamez posted a pair of new lifetime-bests on the day with a Discus mark of 48.76m (159' 11") and Hammer throw of 58.31m (191' 3"), finishing sixth in both events.
Ryan Coy also posted a new lifetime-best in the Hammer, posting a throw of 54.58m (179' 1") for a seventh place finish.
On the women's side, Keely Rasmussen had a fantastic day with two lifetime-bests. The true freshman had a throw of 50.66m (166' 2") in the Hammer and a mark of 40.56m (133' 1") in the Discus. She finished fourth and tenth in the events, respectively.
Malia Talavou turned in a new personal best in Discus with a throw of 47.81m (156' 10"), good for a seventh place finish. Cherish Washington also turned in a new lifetime-best with a throw of 42.68m (140') in the event on her way to a ninth place finish.
In the Hammer, Alexis Pagala posted a new lifetime-best of her won with a throw of 41.37m (135' 8"), finishing twelfth in the event.
