Crystal Washington is now the sole owner of the women’s Triple Jump for both indoor and outdoor seasons.

LOS ANGELES, Calif. - Crystal Washington continued her tremendous 2022, breaking the outdoor women's Triple Jump school record on day two of the Trojan Invitational, hosted by USC. She is now the sole owner of both the indoor and outdoor records in program history.

The senior captain entered the day with a share for the program record, but her jump of 12.87m (42-02.75) beat her previous best by almost fifteen inches. She joins teammate Jason Smith with a school record in both indoor and outdoor seasons.

In the women's 400m, LeNaya Griffin was just short of a program record of her own posting a time of 53.74. It was good for a second place finish in the event as she now ranks second in Long Beach State history. Teammate, Quwshayah Peters crossed the line fourth with a time of 1:01.70.

Ryley Fick etched her name into another top ten in the program's record book, posting a time of 2:09.37 in the women's 800m. Her time gave her a fourth place finish and puts her at fourth on the all-time list.

Rahni Turner also ranks fourth in the program record book, except it is in the women's 100m Hurdles. Racing to a time of 13.66 on Saturday, she finished third for the event for a new lifetime-best. Tayah DeSousa and Hailey Fune were a second behind her finishing fifth and sixth, respectively.

Over on the field, Imani Carmouche, entered the Long Beach State record books as well as claiming the victory in women's High Jump. Clearing the bar at 1.80m (5-10.75), she now ranks seventh all-time in program history. Calista Apostol (5-5) and Kayla Reynante (5-3) also posted solid marks on the day, finishing third and fourth respectively.

The men's team also claimed some top ten marks on day two of the Trojan Invitational, led by Michael Phillips in the 1500m. The junior transfer won the race with a time of 3:46.47 to move into fifth in Long Beach State history. His brother, Connor Phillips, was just shy of a top ten time as he finished third with a time of 3:48.92.

In the men's 110m Hurdle race, Joseph Anderson entered the program's top ten all-time list. The junior posted a 14.13 on his way to a second place finish to put himself at tenth fastest in Long Beach State history.

Elsewhere on the day, the Beach totaled four other wins including a new lifetime-best in men's Javelin from Marcos Gonzalez. He posted a throw of 62.65m (205-6) in the victory, ahead of teammate Ryan Coy (174-9) in second.

LBSU also posted a one-two finish in the men's 800m with Alex Kalmar claiming the victory. His time of 1:51.20 was just seven one-hundredths of a second ahead of Mohammed Mohamed in second.

Rounding out the top performances on the track, the relay team of Williams, Predium, Griffin, and Turner raced to a victory in the 4x100m Relay with a time of 46.26 while Tiana Prince and Maggie Bauer ran one-two in the women's 3000m Run. Prince (10:35.05) and Bauer (10:47.57) both set new lifetime-bests in the event.

On the field, Long Beach State occupied second through seventh in the women's Long Jump led by Kaitlyn Williams and her mark of 5.71m (18-8.75). Not far behind her was Tayah DeSousa (18-6) in third place with a new lifetime-best. Along with her High Jump victory, Carmouche finished fourth in the event with a mark of 5.58m (18-3.75).

Along with Gonzalez and Coy's efforts in men's Javelin, the men's throwers continued the strong start to their season. Charlie Vernoy led the way in the Shot Put with a mark of 15.99m (52-5.5) with Sebastian Coleman right behind him with a throw of 15.49m (50-10).

Long Beach State will be back with two meets next week, competing at meets hosted by UC Riverside and UCLA.
