Track and Field Heads to LA for the Trojan Invitational

LBSU track and field will compete in the Trojan Invitational this Friday and Saturday at USC.
LONG BEACH, Calif. – The Long Beach State track and field team resumes their outdoor season close to home as they compete in the Trojan Invitational, hosted by USC. The throws events will run on Friday with the rest of the events on Saturday.

Among the teams competing with Long Beach State are host USC, Cal State Fullerton, BYU, and the University of Utah.
Friday will just consist of the Hammer and Discus Throws beginning at noon at the South Bay Throws Facility. Everything else will take place on Saturday at Cromwell Field and Loker Stadium beginning with the women's Pole Vault and Long Jump for the field events and the women's 3000m Steeplechase on the track. Competition on day two will begin at 11:00 a.m.
Last week saw Sebastian Coleman earn the title of Men's Field Athlete of the Week and LeNaya Griffin earned the title of Women's Track Athlete of the Week.
Coleman made LBSU history with a throw of 62.96m in the hammer throw that put him in 8th place all-time, and setting his own personal record. The mark also earned him 4th place in the event at the Beach Opener. Griffin has gotten off to a great start this year as well, and most recently helped her 4x100m and 4x400m teams sweep the relays at the Beach Opener. She ran the second leg in the 4x1 to help the squad post a time of 46.73 and ran the first leg in the 4x4 to help them land a 3:50.46. Both athletes will be competing at the upcoming USC Invitational Meet in their respective disciplines.

High school and college students with a valid ID are free to enjoy the event. Tickets for children 12 and under are $5, and adults are $10. USC requires proof of vaccination or a negative COVID test to attend all sporting events, but masks are not required.
