Long Beach State Drops A pair to USC And UCI

Elena Kotanchyan scores seven goals across two games.
Irvine, Calif. — On the second day of the Barbara Kalbus Invitational, No. 13 Long Beach State lost to No. 2 USC and No. 7 UC Irvine.
Against USC, Elena Kotanchyan scored three goals to lead the Beach.
The Trojans got off to a fast start to take a 6-1 lead after the first and the Beach wasn't able to mount the comeback.
The Beach found itself in a battle against tournament host UC Irvine as Long Beach State finished the first tied 2-2.
In the second period, the Anteaters took a 4-3 lead, but the Beach stormed back outscoring UCI 3-2 in the third period to even things up heading into the final period.
Kotanchyan scored four goals while Marilia Mimides and Orsi Hertzka scored two goals.
The Anteaters took a 9-7 lead with less than three minutes remaining. With 49 seconds remaining Kotanchyan scored to cut the lead to one.
After getting the ball back, the Beach's comeback fell just short.
The Beach will now wrap up play tomorrow against No. 10 UC Davis at 9:15 a.m.
