Long Beach State wraps Barbara Kalbus Invitational with best finish in program history.
Irvine, Calif. — Long Beach State wrapped up the Barbara Kalbus Invitational with a thrilling 7-5 win against No. 10 UC Davis Sunday.
With a victory in the seventh-place match, the Beach capped an impressive weekend that included two wins against Top 10 opponents.
The seventh-place finished marked the best finish at the event in program history.
Against the Aggies, Elena Kotanchyan scored a hat trick in the first half as LBSU took a commanding 5-2 lead after the second quarter.
Along with her three goals, Kotanchyan drew three exclusions and the Beach capitalized scoring on 5-of-8 power plays.
The Beach extended that lead to 7-3 after the third and that was enough for the Beach to pick up the win.
Along with Kotanchyan, Orsi Hertzka, Marilia Mimides, Anne de Kleer and Rachael Kowalchick each scored.
In the cage freshman Chelsea Oliver had nine save to keep the Aggies' offense locked down.
