Rachael Kowalchick and Orsi Hertzka each score for goals to lead the Beach
Long Beach, Calif. — No. 9 Long Beach State scored early and often Tuesday night against No. 9 Princeton as the Beach came away with a 17-12 victory at Ken Lindgren Aquatics Center.
Orsi Hertzka got the Beach on the board first, but the Tigers rallied back scoring three straight goals to take a 3-1 lead with 3:33 left in the first period.
After a timeout, Rachael Kowalchick tied the game with back-to-back goals and Hertzka gave the Beach a 4-3 lead with 41 seconds remaining in the period.
Kowalchick completed her first period hat trick when she found the back of the cage to give the Beach a 5-3 lead heading into the second period.
The Beach scored another five goals in the second period to take a 10-5 lead at the break. In the period Marilia Mimides scored two goals and Hertzka capped the period with a penalty-shot goal.
Along with Kowalchick and Hertzka, Mimides scored three goals while Elena Kotanchyan, Mariah Walker and Anne De Kleer scored two goals.
With the victory, the Beach will now prepare to open Big West play when LBSU travels to San Diego to take on No. 13 UC San Diego on Friday.
