The Beach had three hits in the loss.
TUCSON, Ariz. – Sloan Gayan and Alexia Lacatena combined for a three-hit shutout as Long Beach State did not have the answer at the plate for No. 16 Kentucky, falling 5-0 in the team's only game on Saturday.
Kentucky (7-1) struck early, retiring the side in order in the first and then pushing across an unearned run in the bottom of the first, as an RBI double from Erin Coffel scored Rylea Smith to make the score 1-0.
The Wildcats added two more with a two-run home run from Kennedy Sullivan in the bottom of the second.
Long Beach State (2-6) made their biggest threat in the fifth inning. Cassie Camou led off the inning with a base hit, and Lacatena walked her first batter, Corissa Sweet to put two on with no outs. After pushing the runners over with a bunt, the Wildcats were able to cut down the lead runner at the plate on a groundout, and got out of the inning by throwing out Sara Olson in a stolen base attempt to thwart the rally.
Kentucky added two more runs on another RBI double in the fifth to make the score 5-0, which is how the contest would end.
Long Beach State closes out their time in Tucson with one more game on Sunday, facing off against the hosts No. 9 Arizona for a second time. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m., with live streaming available through Pac-12.com.
