Long Beach State Women's Hoops Set to Face Hawai'i on Saturday at the Walter Pyramid
After a three-game road swing, the Long Beach State Women's Basketball team returns to the Walter Pyramid to host Hawaii on Saturday, February 12 at 4 p.m. The game will be broadcast live on ESPN+.

COVID-19 Notes
• If you are coming to the Walter Pyramid this season, please allow for extra time to enter the venue due to COVID-19 protocols as well as parking. Parking payment can be done in two ways, either at the parking machines on site or via the Parkmobile App. Masks are required inside the building, and either proof of vaccination or a negative test is required for all entry.
• Long Beach State has had two non-conference games canceled in December, and two Big West conference games canceled in January due to COVID-19 protocols.
About the Beach
• Long Beach State has won its last three contests to improve to 16-3 overall and 9-2 in Big West Conference action.
• The Beach are tied for first in the Big West Conference standings with UC Irvine as both squads are 9-2 in league action.
• Heading into the game against Hawaii, Long Beach State is 7-1 when playing inside the Walter Pyramid this season.
• LBSU was chosen to finish fourth in the Big West Preseason Coaches' Poll and second in the league's preseason media poll.
• The Beach lead the Big West Conference in half a dozen statistical categories. Long Beach State sets the standard in scoring defense (54.11), scoring margin (+9.67), assists per game (14.50), steals per game (12.28), turnover margin (+9.04), and assist/turnover ratio (1.12).

Player Notes
• Maddi Utti is Long Beach State's leading scorer with 13.9 points per game. She also leads the squad with 8.7 rebounds per game, 62 steals, and 18 blocks. This season, she has recorded four 20-point performances, led the Beach in scoring nine times, registered five double-digit rebounding games, and has notched four double-doubles. She has also been named Big West Conference Player of the Week on three separate occasions.
• Justina King is the Beach's second leading scorer with 12.0 points per game on the season. She also leads the team with 92 assists for an average of 4.84 to lead the Big West. King had a 21-point performance against UC Davis, her first of the season and 10th of her career. She now ranks 15th all time at Long Beach State with 1,207 career points.
• Jasmine Hardy had a career-game against Seattle as she poured in a career-best 29 points on 11-of-14 made field goals and 7-of-9 made threes. She became just the fourth player in the Jeff Cammon era to reach at least 25 points in a game. Earlier this week, Hardy tallied 22 points in the Beach's win over Cal State Fullerton as she recorded her second 20-plus point performance of the season and third of her career. She is now averaging 10.9 points per game to rank third on the team.
• Ma'Qhi Berry has been a force on the court this season contributing on both sides of the ball. Offensively, she averages 8.8 points per game with 53 assists, to go along with 2.8 rebounds per game. On the defensive end, Berry owns eight blocks, while adding 27 steals. At CSU Bakersfield, Berry poured in a season-high 18 points as she connected on 6-of-9 field goals.
• Kianna Hamilton-Fisher has been an integral part of the Beach offense this season. She has come off the bench and averaged 8.2 points per game to go along with 2.7 rebounds per game, 32 steals, 30 assists, and seven blocks.
• Lauren Green has earned the start in 15-of-18 games this season and has played an important role on the court. Although her numbers aren't overpowering (2.3 points per game, 1.9 rebounds per game and 10 steals), Green is a play maker. She makes things happen for the Beach both offensively and defensively and is a key component to the squad's success.
• Freshman Savannah Tucker has also played an important role for the Beach as she recorded a career-high 10 points against Seattle. On the year, Tucker is averaging 2.2 points per game and 0.6 rebounds per game, while also contributing six steals, three assists, and one block.
• Patricia Chung is another cog in the Long Beach State wheel of success as the freshman guard is averaging 1.9 points per game and 0.7 rebounds per game. The scrappy Chung has helped contribute to the Beach's solid defensive efforts with a pair of steals and her stout defending.
• Kristyna Jeskeova is another key factor to the Beach's deep bench. At UC Santa Barbara, the sophomore forward tied her career-high with 12 points to go along with five rebounds. Jeskeova is now averaging 1.6 points per game and 3.7 rebounds per game.
• Thea Mikkelsen came to the Beach all the way from Roskilde, Denmark and in her collegiate debut tallied 10 points against Biola. Since her 10-point showing in the season opener, Mikkelsen has averaged 1.7 points per game, 0.6 rebounds per game, while adding four assists, and two steals in 66 minutes of action.
• Emily Sullivan has also been on the court in 13 games this season for a total of 59 minutes in which she has contributed 10 points, eight rebounds, and two steals.
• Brandy Huffhines made her collegiate debut for the Beach in the season opener against Biola. She has since seen action against Seattle and Air Force. In three games, she has seen 21 minutes of action and is averaging 0.7 points per game and one steal.
• Redshirting for Long Beach State this season are freshmen Shelby Ray and Teodora Popovic.
Scouting Hawai'i
• Hawaii brings a four-game winning streak into the Walter Pyramid as the Rainbow Wahine are 11-8 overall and 7-2 in Big West action.
• UH is coming off of a 55-46 win at Cal State Fullerton on Thursday night.
• The Beach and the Rainbow Wahine are playing each other for the first time this season, as their previously scheduled contest was canceled due to COVID-19 protocols.
• As a team, Hawaii is shooting 40.5-percent from the field as the Wahine are averaging 63.8 points per game.
• Amy Atwelll is Hawaii's leading scorer as she is averaging 18.2 points per game to lead the Big West. Additionally, Atwell leads the team with 5.9 rebounds per game to go along with a team-best 28 steals and 13 blocks.
• Nae Nae Calhoun is team's leader in assists as she has dished out 51 on the year.
The Series: The Beach vs. The Rainbow Wahine
Long Beach State and Hawaii will meet for the 44th time in program history. Overall, the Rainbow Wahine lead the all-time series 23-20. UH has won the last three contests between the two teams. In their last meeting, on February 27, 2020, Hawaii defeated Long Beach State, 76-73 in overtime. The two teams were scheduled to face each other in early January, but the contest was canceled due to COVID-19 protocols.
Defensively Strong
Long Beach State is a well-established defensive team that has led the Big West in steals multiple times over the last several seasons. This year the Beach are averaging a conference-leading 12.4 steals per game, which ranks them eighth in the nation. Long Beach State has forced their opponents into 22.2 turnovers per game, which is good for 12th in the country. Long Beach State is also tops in the NCAA in turnover margin (+9.11). Individually, Maddi Utti leads the way for the Beach with a conference-leading 3.44 steals per game average, which ranks her fifth in the country.
King of the Court
Justina King has been solid, not just all season, but throughout her Long Beach State career. The junior guard from Scarborough, Canada has made her way into the LBSU Record Books with 1,207 career points to rank in the top 15 all time. If that weren't enough, she just cracked the top 10 in three-pointers made with 114, and free throws made with 269.
Berry Good
Ma'Qhi Berry has been an integral part for the Beach as she has consistently contributed on both sides of the ball in her Long Beach State career. Last week, Berry poured in a season-high 18 points at CSU Bakersfield as she connected on 6-of-9 field goals, was 1-for-1 from beyond the arc, and 5-for-6 from the free throw line. With another outstanding showing, Berry is now averaging 8.8 points per game and 2.8 rebounds per game this season.
Hardy Makes it Look Easy
Junior Jasmine Hardy had a career-day as she led Long Beach State over Seattle with a career-high 29 point performance. Hardy was firing on all cylinders as she connected on 11-of-14 field goals to shoot an impressive 78.6-percent from the field. Seven of her 11 field goals were from three-point range as she went 7-for-9 from long distance for a hot 77.8-percentage from behind the arc. Since that explosive performance, Hardy continues to be an integral part of the Beach's squad. Most recently, Hardy poured in 22 points in a win over Cal State Fullerton as the Santa Clarita, Calif., native drained six three pointer to bring her season average to 10.9 points per game. She also contributes 3.3 rebounds per game, to go along with 24 steals, 21 assists, and nine blocks.
Mad(di) Skills
Senior forward Maddi Utti has been outstanding for the Beach all season as she has been named Big West Player of the Week three times. On the year, she is averaging 13.9 points per game and 8.7 rebounds per game. Her rebounding average is good for tops on the team and second in the Big West. She also leads the Beach with 62 steals and 18 blocks. Thus far, Utti has recorded four 20-point performances, 13 double-digit showings, five double-figure rebounding games, and four double-doubles. Utti has led the Beach in scoring 10 times this season and has led the squad in rebounding 17 times.
Ki Component
Kianna Hamilton-Fisher has been a key component for the Beach as she has come off the bench and made an impact in each game thus far. Hamilton-Fisher is currently averaging 8.8 points per game and 2.8 rebounds per game to go along with 32 steals, 30 assists, and seven blocks.

Justina King had a monster game on Tuesday at Cal State Fullerton as she distributed a career-high 10 assists against the Titans.
