Freshman Aboubacar Traore recorded his fifth double-double with 18 points, 11 rebounds in the win.
HONOLULU, Hawaii – Long Beach State trailed by one with just over five minutes to play at Hawai'i, but for the tenth time in a row found a way to grab the win, pulling away down the stretch to come away with a 73-66 win in Honolulu.
Aboubacar Traore had a big night, finishing with 18 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Beach, while Colin Slater added 16 points for LBSU. Romelle Mansel also gave the Beach a lift off the bench with 11 points on 5-of-8 shooting.
Forcing 11 first-half turnovers helped Long Beach State (14-9, 9-1 Big West) open up a quick lead after the opening minutes. The Beach would open up a lead as large as nine points at 14-5, but Hawai'i (11-8, 6-3 Big West) was able to shave the lead down to three with strong rebounding before the Beach took a 28-23 edge into halftime.
Getting a run of points from Traore in the first five minutes of the second half, the Beach took a 41-34 lead, but again UH had the answer. Heating up from three, the Rainbow Warriors cut into the lead and eventually took a 52-51 lead Noel Coleman.
Long Beach State found Traore for an answer to go back in front, and led the rest of the way. Two free throws from Jerome DesRosiers brought the lead back to one once more at 60-59, but senior Drew Cobb came up with big points right when LBSU needed them. Scoring all five of his points in the next minute, Long Beach State opened up an eight-point lead at 67-59, and closed out the game from the free throw line in the victory.
Long Beach State will get a bye weekend and then return to the road for two more away games next week, traveling to CSUN on Thursday and UC Santa Barbara on Saturday.

Steal from Jones and then a clutch basket from Slater on the other end leads to a UH timeout. Beach up 65-59, both teams without a timeout so get ready for a breathless finish! #GoBeach pic.twitter.com/qTRNxFLhv2
