
Scimia, Fick Earn All-Big West Honors at The Big West Championships

For the first time since 2011, the Beach had two All-Big West runners at the conference championships meet.
RIVERSIDE, Calif. – The Long Beach State Cross Country team competed at The Big West Championships hosted by UC Riverside on Saturday morning. Allie Scimia and Ryley Fick were the headliners earning All-Big West honors.
In the women's 6K, Scimia had a tremendous race finishing second with a time of 19:49. It is just three seconds shy of her PR and the school record, but marks the second sub-20 mark in program history. Not far behind was Fick who crossed the line 20:13.2 for a ninth place finish. This is the fourth time this season the duo have both finished in the top ten.
This is the first time since 2011 that the Beach had two All-Big West runners and Scimia's runner-up finish is the highest placement by an LBSU woman since Rosa Del Toro won the championship in that 2011 season.
Anitha Graves was the third Long Beach runner to cross the line with a time of 22:12.1. The trio of Brieanna Tafoya (22:27.2), Tessa Chen (22:30.8), and Maggie Bauer (22:44.7) grouped together to finish with in six placements of each other to round out the scoring for the Beach.
For the men's 8K, the Phillips brothers paced the Beach. Michael Phillips crossed the line in 24:37.3 for 19th place and Connor Phillips ran a 24:53.2 for a 28th place finish.
Quinn Garity was 35th across the line in 25:05.4 as the third LBSU finisher and ahead of a pack of four runners within seven positions rounded out the scoring.
Cameron Gill (25:29.8) and Antonio Carbajal (25:33.6) were back-to-back in the top 50. Alex Kalmar (25:36.5) and Mario Tavares (25:46.5) were the final two point scorers for Long Beach.
In the team standings, the Long Beach women finished sixth with 152 total points while the men were seventh with 171 points.
The Cross Country team is back in action for the NCAA West Regionals on November 11. This year's regionals will be hosted by the University of Washington in Seattle, Wash.
