Scimia Leads the Way as Cross Country Closes 2022 Season at NCAA West Regionals

Long Beach State finished the year in Seattle, Wash. for the NCAA West Regionals.
SEATTLE, Wash. – Long Beach State Cross Country had their season come to an end on Friday morning, competing in the NCAA West Regionals. The meet took place at Chambers Creek Regional Park hosted by the University of Washington.
Women's 6K Results | Men's 10K Results
The women's team got the day started with a 10 a.m. start time for their 6,000m run. Allie Scimia led the way with a 40th place finish, the highest placement since Rosa Del Toro in 2011. She crossed the line with a time of 20:02.0 for the fastest mark by the Beach at the regionals in program history.
Next across the line was senior Ryley Fick with a time of 20:45.3 for an 87th place finish. Jaxin Woodward (22:01.2) and Anitha Graves (22:01.7) were third and fourth for LBSU finishing within a second of each other.
Maggie Bauer (23:03.1), Tessa Chen (23:13.9), and Brieanna Tafoya (23:49.2) rounded out the scoring for the team.
Overall, Long Beach State was 25th in the team standings with a total of 711 points.
In the men's 10,000m at 11 a.m., Michael Phillips led the way once again cracking the top 100 with a time of 30:23.7. It marks a new personal best for the senior and the fastest time in a regional meet for the Beach since Chris Enriquez in 2013.
Quinn Garity was the second runner across for LBSU with a new lifetime-best of 30:54.2. Antonio Carbajal was next with a new PR as well, crossing the line in 31.31.3.
Mario Tavares (32.00.7), Alex Kalmar (32:19.5), and Cameron Gill (32:30.0) rounded out the scoring for the Beach.
Long Beach State finished 26th in the men's team standings, totaling 727 points.
Stanford claimed first place in the team standings for both the men's and women's teams ahead of the Oregon women and Gonzaga men as the automatic qualifiers. Kaylee Mitchell of Oregon State won the women's 6K and Brian Fay of Washington won the men's 10k.
