The Beach’s six goals scored ties the most in a single-game in program history.
The win moves Long Beach State to 5-4-5 overall as they remain unbeaten in Big West play at 4-0-2. The six-match unbeaten streak is the longest for the program since the 2018 season when they also went on a 4-0-2 stretch.
It only took five minutes for the Beach to find the back of the net on a beautiful shot from Sara Ybarra. UC San Diego's clear went straight to the redshirt freshman at the 18-yard line who sent her shot into the far upper corner for the first goal of the her career.
Just three minutes later, the Beach tacked on another for a very quick 2-0 lead. After a free kick, a header into the crossbar rebounded straight down to Sophie Jones. The junior striker took two touches to settle and bury it for her second goal of the season.
The third goal was number one of the night for Silano who received a perfect pass from Cherrie Cox in the center of the box. The right-footed finish marks her tenth of the year giving her consecutive season with double-digit goals.
Her second of the night came just five minutes later in the 23rd after an incredible ball down field from Jones. Silano would beat the final UCSD defender and the keeper to finish with left as she recorded the eighth multi-goal effort of her career.
A Triton goal in the 18th minute would end the shutout, but a dominant first half had the Beach up 4-1 with 45 minutes left to play. The four goals scored is the most in the first half of a match in program history.
Coming out of the break, it was a completely different ballgame as UCSD fired off 13 shots as they tried to mount a comeback. However, Zora Standifer was not to beaten tonight setting a new career-high with 10 saves, nine of which came in the second half.
The offense got going again in the 73rd minute as the Cox-Silano connection showed up once again. The freshman picked up a loose ball, passed it to Silano at the top of the box who gave it right back for a left-footed finish. The fourth goal of Cox's career gave the Beach a four-goal lead.
The historic shot came in the 77th minute as Julia Moore sent a pass down field right in Silano's path. The senior took one dribble and fired her shot past the keeper and into the back of the net for the hat trick. It is the ninth in program history and first since Melanie Fox did it in 2015.
