Long Beach State Remains Unbeaten With 2-1 Win Over Portland

Ameera White and Radisson Banks each score their first goal of the season as the Beach improve to 5-0-1
LONG BEACH, Calif. -- Long Beach State continued their unbeaten start to the 2026 season Thursday night, defeating Portland 2-1 at George Allen Field behind goals from Ameera White and Radisson Banks.
The Beach improved to 5-0-1 with their fifth consecutive victory and remain unbeaten through the first six matches of the season. Long Beach State is now 3-0-1 at George Allen Field and 2-0-0 on the road.
After opening the season with five consecutive shutouts, Long Beach State conceded for the first time this year but responded with Banks' game-winner early in the second half to preserve their unbeaten record.
The Beach needed less than two minutes to take the lead.
Cherrie Cox set up White, who found the back of the net at 1:42 to put Long Beach State ahead 1-0. The goal was White's first of the season and second of her career, adding to a strong offensive start in which the sophomore has also recorded six assists. Cox picked up her first assist of the season on the play and the 12th of her Long Beach State career.
Portland responded by applying significant pressure throughout the remainder of the opening half. The Pilots generated 10 first-half shots compared to three for the Beach, forcing Aurora Schuck into three saves.
Schuck made her first stop in the 20th minute on Xayla Black before denying Journey Middleborn in the 31st and Justi Nelson in the 33rd.
Portland finally broke through in the 33' to even the match at 1-1. The goal ended Long Beach State's season-opening shutout streak at 482:47, as the Beach had not allowed a goal over their first five matches.
The 1-1 score held through halftime, but Long Beach State quickly regained the advantage after the break.
Taylor Bellotti connected a beautiful long ball from half court to Banks in the 50th minute, and the senior forward finished at to put the Beach back in front 2-1. The goal was Banks' first of the season and fifth in her Long Beach State career, while also marking her first game-winning goal for the Beach.
Bellotti recorded her second assist in as many matches after also setting up Kailey Supa's goal against Weber State. The freshman now has one goal, two assists and four points through the first six matches of her collegiate career.
From there, Long Beach State protected the one-goal advantage.
Schuck stopped Portland again at 52' before the Beach defense limited Portland's opportunities for much of the remainder of the half. The Pilots managed just two shots over the final 45 minutes after recording 10 in the first half.
Portland made one final push late, earning consecutive corner kicks in the 82nd minute forcing Schuck to hold the line. The senior goalkeeper finished with a season-high five saves to secure the victory.
Schuck improved to 4-0-1 on the season and has allowed just one goal across 450 minutes, posting a 0.20 goals-against average and a .941 save percentage. She has made 16 saves while recording four shutouts in her five starts.
Portland finished with a 12-5 advantage in shots and put six attempts on goal compared to three for Long Beach State. The Pilots also held a 3-2 edge in corner kicks but the Beach converted two of their three shots on target and Schuck made five saves at the other end.
Banks led Long Beach State with two shots, putting both on goal, while White scored on her only attempt on frame. Cox and Bellotti supplied the assists.
The victory continued a historic opening to the season for Long Beach State. The Beach are unbeaten at 5-0-1 through six matches and have won five straight since beginning the year with a 0-0 draw against Saint Mary's. During that five-match winning streak, Long Beach State has outscored their opponents 13-1.
