Long Beach State brings an unbeaten record and five consecutive shutouts into this week’s matches

LONG BEACH, Calif. -- Long Beach State continues their historic unbeaten start Thursday when the Beach hosts Portland at George Allen Field before traveling to face Grand Canyon on Sunday. Both matches are scheduled for 7 p.m. as the Beach look to build on a 4-0-1 start behind the strongest defensive stretch in program history.

KICKOFF
• Long Beach State hosts Portland at George Allen Field on Thursday, September 3, before traveling to Phoenix to face Grand Canyon on Sunday, September 6. Both matches are scheduled for 7 p.m.

• The Beach carry a 4-0-1 record into the week after defeating Weber State 3-0 at George Allen Field. Long Beach State has won four straight since opening the season with a scoreless draw against Saint Mary's.

• Cherrie Cox scored twice against Weber State, while Kailey Supa added the third goal. Cox recorded her second consecutive multi-goal performance after scoring her first career hat trick at Fresno State.

• Long Beach State has not allowed a goal through five matches. The Beach have held opponents to 35 shots and 12 shots on goal over 450 minutes, with Aurora Schuck and Amaya Sanles stopping every attempt they have faced.

• The offense has produced 11 goals on 79 shots, placing 34 attempts on frame. Long Beach State enters Thursday averaging 15.8 shots and 2.2 goals per match.

• Portland comes to Long Beach with a 1-3-0 record after a 2-0 loss at No. 5 Wake Forest. The Pilots defeated Utah Tech 3-0 after opening the season with losses to Washington and Utah State.

• Xayla Black, Violet Rademacher and Kyah Zurek have scored Portland's three goals. Black leads the group with three shots and two shots on goal, while Tayvi Khann has recorded the Pilots' only assist.

• Sophia Hills has started all four matches in goal for Portland, making 16 saves with a .762 save percentage. Hills has allowed five goals and recorded one shutout.

• Grand Canyon enters the week with a 3-1-1 record. The Lopes opened the season with shutout wins over Arizona and Buffalo, lost 1-0 to Texas, defeated CSUN 3-0 and played UC Irvine to a 1-1 draw.

• GCU has outscored opponents 8-2 while holding a 82-49 advantage in shots. Sophia Rubano leads the Lopes with three goals and seven points, while Amanda Adams has one goal, three assists and a team-high 19 shots.

• Long Beach State entered the 2026 campaign following a 5-8-5 season in 2025. The Beach finished 2-4-4 in Big West play while scoring 21 goals and allowing 20.

• The Beach were picked seventh in the 2026 Big West Preseason Coaches' Poll with 72 points. Cal Poly and UC Santa Barbara tied for the top spot with 100 points apiece, followed by Cal State Fullerton with 98.

• Cox and Radisson Banks were selected to the Preseason All-Big West Team. Cox leads the Beach with six goals and 12 points, while Banks is second on the team with three assists.

PLAYER NOTES
• Making the first start of her career, Amaya Sanles recorded a shutout against Weber State. The redshirt sophomore made one save as Long Beach State extended their scoreless streak to 450 minutes.

• Cherrie Cox followed her first career hat trick with two more goals against Weber State. Cox scored on two of her five shots on goal in the 3-0 victory.

• Cox leads Long Beach State with six goals and 12 points through five starts. She has 29 goals and 11 assists for 69 points in 53 career matches, including seven game-winning goals.

• Cox is tied for fifth in program history with 29 career goals, ranks seventh with 69 points and is tied for sixth with seven game-winning goals.

• Cox was the 2023 Big West Offensive Player of the Year after leading the conference with 13 goals. She was also named the 2022 Big West Freshman of the Year following a five-goal, five-assist debut season.

• Taylor Bellotti assisted on Kailey Supa's goal against Weber State. The freshman has appeared in all five matches with three starts, recording one goal and one assist for three points.

• Radisson Banks remains one of the most active players in the Long Beach State attack. She leads the Beach with 16 shots and ranks second with eight shots on goal and three assists.

• Ameera White leads the Beach with six assists through five starts. The sophomore assisted on two goals against Weber State and now has 12 assists through 23 career matches.

• Kailey Supa scored her second goal of the season in the win over Weber State. The junior has seven goals and one assist for 15 points through 40 career appearances.

• Zoe Willis has played every minute of Long Beach State's five shutouts. The senior captain has started 48 of her 58 career matches and played more than 4,449 career minutes.

• Jordan Candelaria has started all five matches in the midfield and played 337 minutes. The senior captain has five shots this season and enters Thursday with three goals and four assists through 56 career appearances.

• Kana Uchida has started all four matches in which she has appeared. The senior has one goal and six assists through 60 career appearances and has played more than 4,710 minutes for the Beach.

• Natalie Arnold has come off the bench in all five matches, playing 185 minutes. She has appeared in 38 career matches with 20 starts, recording three goals and one assist.

• Cassidy Drago has started all five matches during her first season with the Beach. The BYU transfer has one goal and one assist for three points while ranking third on the team with 11 shots.

• Ruby Mansour has started all five matches on the back line and played 411 of a possible 450 minutes. She has helped the Beach record five shutouts while contributing four shots, including two on goal.

• Kylie Perez has appeared in three matches with two starts, playing 199 minutes. The senior has made 33 appearances with 19 starts during her Long Beach State career.

• Long Beach State is unbeaten at 4-0-1, with each of their first five results coming by shutout. The Beach have defeated Colgate, Fresno State, New Mexico State and Weber State since opening the season with a scoreless draw against Saint Mary's.

• The Beach have not trailed at any point this season. They have played 450 minutes without conceding a goal while limiting opponents to 7.0 shots and 2.4 shots on goal per match.

• Long Beach State owns a 79-35 advantage in shots and a 34-12 edge in shots on goal. The Beach have also taken 27 corner kicks compared with 14 for their opponents.

• Long Beach State's 11 goals have come from five players. Cox leads the way with six, Supa has scored twice and Bellotti, Drago and Uchida have each added one.

• Banks has taken a team-high 16 shots, followed by Cox with 14 and Drago with 11. Cox leads the Beach with nine shots on goal, followed by Banks with eight.

• White's six assists have already matched her team-leading total from last season. Banks has three assists, while Supa, Bellotti, Drago, Emerson Obrist and Willis have one apiece.

• The Beach have scored five goals in the first half and six in the second. Defensively, they have kept opponents scoreless in all 10 periods played.

• Cox and Schuck have both continued to climb the Long Beach State career record book. Cox is tied for fifth with 29 goals and ranks seventh with 69 points, while Schuck ranks third with 14 career shutouts and sixth with 140 saves.

• Thursday's matchup features two teams that have followed very different paths defensively. Long Beach State has not conceded a goal through five matches, while Portland has been shut out in each of their three losses.

• Portland has placed 11 of 27 shots on goal for a .407 shots-on-goal percentage. All three of the Pilots' goals came in their 3-0 victory at Utah Tech.

• Grand Canyon has recorded three shutouts through five matches and has allowed only two goals. The Lopes enter Sunday averaging 16.4 shots per match while limiting opponents to 9.8.

• Mauricio Ingrassia is in his 23rd season leading the Beach. He earned his 200th victory at Long Beach State on August 31, 2024, with a 2-1 win over Utah Valley and enters Thursday with a 213-151-61 career record.
